4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2010 Vintage. Served from tap at the brewery release party into an RJ Rockers shaker. Poured a massively dark brown almost black with a one and a half finger light tan head. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, chocolate, and subtle bitter hops. The flavor was of roasted malt, subtle bitter hop that intensified upon swallowing, and very slight chocolate. It had a medium feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was a pretty nicely balanced Black IPA. With this one being as fresh as possible the hop character is in full bloom right now. The aroma on this one was quite nice and had a good flavor to follow it up. This one is a must try if you are a fan of the style.
Very good, malty, chocolate coffee aroma. Appearance is above avg, frothy head, dark color. Taste is super strong coffee, some malt, some hops. a little carbonated for my liking. Great beer. hershiser2 (3245) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - NOV 23, 2016

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a very faint and thin off-white head, barely coating the top. Aroma of roasted malt, hazelnuts, peanuts, mushrooms, sewage and a touch of grassy hops - very interesting in the nose. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich malty flavours up front with a good deal of caramelised sugars, some mushrooms and meatier elements with a nice complex hop finish showing some herbal notes but also a touch of a citrus finish. Aftertaste is rich and very malty - more of a baltic porter than anything else, especially at this ABV, but showing some hops, however the malt comes through strongest here. Overall, a nice rich beer with a lot of good tastes and complex malt flavours. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Alexandria, Virginia on 03-May-2016 for US$1,67 sampled at home in Washington on 07-July-2016. hayduke (5209) - Eureka, California, USA - MAR 24, 2016
Pours very black with a tan head. Nose of dark burnt malt, chocolate and floral hops. Full bodied. Flavor is chocolate, burnt malt, coffee, and floral and citrus hops. Finishes with a lot of bitter chocolate. Really good stuff. BroSpud (2189) - , Massachusetts, USA - JAN 16, 2016
12oz bottle. Pours black with a small amount of light shining through. Extremely easy drinking for such a high abv but overall I found it lacking in character. It’s good but not all that memorable. Expected more.

From Sendiks in Brookfield. No bottle date. Caramel, black malts, some hoppy presence. Not bad, and it was sitting during a few trips through the store over time. Nice dark malty flavor. 13.7

Bottle at home, thanks to someone. Gotta do a better job labeling beers from trades. Thanks anyways whoever! Black pour, thin tan head. Aroma is cocoa, roasted malts, vanilla, licorice. More of a stout aroma, not much hop presence. Taste is cocoa, toast, licorice, faint pine and a moderately bitter finish. Pretty good. Heavy body, medium carbonation. Not a bad beer, but not really a clear "IPA" in my opinion. More of a bitter stout. Bitterness seems to come from cocoa or dark chocolate versus hops. But who knows, I’m not a brewer. I’m just a dickhead on a couch. Literally. BelgianBeerGal (4066) - Panama City, Florida, USA - APR 23, 2015
Norfolk bottle during the CC course at Langley. Nice dark chestnut color with a brown head. Interesting aroma with some molasses, a hint of hops but also a medicinal kick. Nice flavor that has some chocolate to go with a lingering, hoppy bitterness. Nice. katrinaez (2019) - norristown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 14, 2015
UPDATED: APR 7, 2015 Multi dimension beer. Starts with a burst of flavor then slight bitter then eases into a chocolate coffee. Dark coloring. Had on tap.
