Ok. It has a lot of conflict going on with the taste and it really doesn't taste Belgian (to my uneducated palate). Slightly hoppy. A bit weak body for 9.5ABV. But there is something I can't put my finger on that makes me like this beer. A little spice, some coffee, fig, raisin, cherry. . . I'm not sure. Try it. You will either like it or hate it.

Pour on tap, dark brownish pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, dark fruit, toffee, brown sugar, slight tart fruit. Taste was a mix of sweet fruit, sugar, dark fruit, cherry, some spice, slight nutty notes into a bit of grain, finishing slightly sweet, slightly spicy.

Bottled 10/21/15. Pours pretty dark. Near black, tan head, fairly sizable. Aroma is licorice, fig, raisin, esters, bit of chocolate, slight cherry. Flavor is more cherry, slightly sour. Bit of fig. There’s a bitter note, not sure if it’s hops, coffee, or something else entirely, but definite astringency, which is kinda unpleasant actually. It’s a bit too pronounced for this style. Definitely not overly Belgian in regards to spice character. Body is surprisingly weak for 9.5, which is to say at the very least it hides it well. But it is a bit cold, fresh out the fridge, maybe it needs some time to warm up. I’ll continue this after it warms. Ok, it’s warmed up. nope, still not that good. So this beer is actually not bad for the most part, but that finish is just a mess. It’s just not very Belgian this thing.

Mainly sweet taste. Very dark brown color. Label is an attention grabber. Alcohol stronger than Belgium yeast.

Nice fig aroma, sweet. Color is nice dark reddish brown. Flavor is a little lacking. Even but one dimensional.in taste. A little sweet, and some yeast and malts are roasted and brought out, but overall, just basic. Tap

Really good Belgian style strong dark ale.. Dark in color with a tan head. Notes of raisins, prunes and figs.. Not much heat from the high ABV, well done by these brewers to not have much alc taste with a high alc content.. Def a great sip on beer, I will enjoy again for sure

pours an almost opaque burgundy with almost no head. Aroma: Raisin, spice, brown sugar, bread. Flavor: Raisin, bread, spice. medicinal. Medium body. average carbonation. Alcohol is present but not aggressive. Finish is very dry. Not good. From aroma to finish this is just bad. The dryness of the finish is long and coats your entire mouth.

Sampled from a bottle, this ale had a dark brown opaque pour and gave a one finger light tan / tan colored cover that receded to a thin layer and ring, it left nice spots and fingers of lacing on the glass, the nose had fig, raisin and date dark fruit, fruit esters, caramel, a little toasted dark bread, hints of chocolate in the background, and dark fruit (date like) and brown sugar sweetness, the flavors were malty, toasted bread, raisin and fig with dark fruit and dark bread sweetness, the finish had a little pepper spice that gave a bit of balance to the sweetness and lingered for a few moments, dark malt carried on afterwards, the mouth feel was about medium or a touch thicker with average to lively carbonation, it felt creamy on the lips, this was a ok Belgian dark strong drink, I thought it was more of a malty / dark malt focused BDSA with dark fruit on a lower tier, a good sipping drink.

bottle. deep brown with small head. quite malty with plenty of dark fruit, brown sugar, clove. almost like a belgian winter warmer. slight alcohol warmth.

demitriustown (1192) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - AUG 29, 2015
12 oz bottle: Upfront clove, banana, coriander, and a bit of plum in the aroma. The appearance is a deep dark thick cola like black with a medium tan head that diminishes slowly. Taste has got a nice malt character with the Belgian spice mentioned in the aroma. Palate has got a nice rounded after taste. Overall, really good stuff. Just a well rounded beer. Cheers!
