In days before health & safety, Hatters prompted plenty of singing from our brewery. Formally known as ‘Best Mild’ this was the beer drunk as part of an hourly paid beer allowance. As each employee was allocated 4 pints of Hatters a day, which was usually consumed before midday, Stockport regularly echoed with singing from the brewery!
First brewed in 1892 the beer allowance draw to a close in 1990 due to new regulations, but continues to be one of Robinsons’ best selling ales.
Hatters is an excellent easy drinking light ale with a dry roasted nutty malt palate and a delicate Golding dry hop aroma. Finishing with a thirst Quenching balance of malt and hops.

KyotoLefty (10689) - Kyoto, JAPAN - AUG 9, 2014
From the cask at their pub in Stockport. From old notes. A decent mild. Medium brown color. Nice, a true mild, not as rich and flavorful as the black cat, but flavorful malts, some nuts, and nicely drinkable.

Cask @ The Dolphin, Macclesfield. Pours an amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma with some toasted hints. Fruity malty caramel flavor with some hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty caramel finish.

Christian (13822) - Odense, DENMARK - OCT 30, 2007
Amber with a small but lasting white head. Fruity aroma with some pear notes. Watery flavour, sweet and fruity.

Rastacouere (6177) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 3, 2007
Straight orange. Generous off-white head culminates at 1cm of altitude. Very fruity (peach and apricot reminiscent) nose backed by stuffy toasted malts. Different and lighter (in colour) flavours than most milds, it is almost asking for darker fruits and feels like a light and refreshing, very juicy example that has less character than most. Light-medium bodied, mostly still.

[email protected] Market Porter. Lightly toasty malt cjaracters, with some light citric hops towards the finish. Feels very thin and watery. Not much happening in here.

KnutAlbert (6792) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 5, 2006
Cask at the Market Porter, London. Very dry, the finish is much more pronounced than the body of the beer itself. Long lingering dryness. Not great, but interesting.

hughie (3996) - Bedford, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - OCT 8, 2006
Cask at Wellington Arms, bedford. Dark gold. Unobtrusive sweet malt aroma. Odd, distinctive taste with tea, bread, malt, grass, fruit. A sharp hint of bitterness that doesn’t last.
