Originally labelled as Ginger Tom. Label was changed to read Old Tom With Ginger circa 2011.
Ginger Tom is a lively breed indeed, a subtle snap of ginger creates lovely purring warmth for those cold winter nights, or a refreshing summer beverage when served over ice.
Specially brewed using an infusion of Chinese bruised ginger root and botanical extracts, this warming speciality ale has a pronounced ginger and spiced herb palate complemented by a sweet roasted malt dryness and wonderful ginger after burn.
Ginger Tom is a richly flavoured dark oak coloured ale with distinctive aromas of peppery spice and sweet ginger.

Brun med cremefarvet skum. Duften er fyldig og krydret med tydelig præg af ingefær. Smagen er sød og domineret af ingefær og peber med en varmende, brændende fornemmelse à la chili. Eftersmagen er let syrlig men sød. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark ruby colour, with a thin head. Very strong ginger aroma, sweet, caramel. Taste is sweet, the ginger note is very prominent. Aftertaste is long and sweet. Nice beer, but too sweet for my taste

jacobarts (208) - Aarhus, DENMARK - JUN 25, 2017
Bottle at Peter Gift with Thorlund and Krabbe. Dark brown ale. Aroma: lots of ginger, sweet aroma, sugar, some roasted malts. Taste: strong sweet ginger taste, roasted malts, suger. I like the balance in this beer, nice one.

Rubin77 (2125) - Brussels / Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - JUN 23, 2017
F: big, tan, good retention. C: dark brown, clear. A: malty, a lot of ginger spicy, orange peels. T: malty, herbal, ginger, caramel sweet, not bad but may be too sweet, medium to full body, medium carbonation, long lasting ginger aftertaste, enjoyed, 33cl bottle as from Auchan Market in Luxembourg.

klukas (272) - Rijeka, CROATIA - JUN 5, 2017
Enjoyed: Poured from a bottle into some shaker glass. Appearance: Dark ruby/brown colour, with floating bits and medium creamy head. Aroma: Ginger, malt, hint of caramel and hops... Palate: Light watery body; gentle carbonation. Taste: Sweet, ginger and some other spices, citrus-like and pepper bitter and hot aftertaste. Overall impression: Interesting, might be enjoyable; I’m not into ginger but this is good enough. Reminds of peppery radler.

Alebarasi (105) - Dobrova, SLOVENIA - APR 24, 2017
Dark brown/deep ruby color with large, beige foamy head. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, creamy lacing. Aroma of spicy ginger, hops, malts, toffee, spices. Taste is very gingery and moderately sweet, with accompanied aromas of dark fruits, dark bread, yeast, syrup, soda pear and some vanilla, licorice and alcohol. Unique and enjoyable.

Bottle. Dark Reddish-Brown in colour. Very fruity (dark fruits) and Spicy (ginger & herbs). Malty (roast malts, caramel, toffee). Sweet fruity spicy throughout. Spicy ginger dominates. Very drinkable. (2008)

midovark (935) - Balassagyarmat, HUNGARY - FEB 2, 2017
Bottled. Dark mahogany colour with quickly disappearing head. I dont get much out of the aroma, only the ginger. In taste first comes the sweet ginger, followed by some bitterish notes. Sweet finish, light body and soft carbonation. It’s like ginger was added to a bad ale to hide its flaws, but the original version is not a bad ale, so I dont really see the point.

ALLOVATE (3015) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JAN 13, 2017
2009 vintage - Ginger Tom. Bottle from Tucker’s Maltings, Newton Abbot, Devon 2010.
At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Misted, cola brown with ruby in the shallows and a few solid proteins that sink rapidly to the base. . Head holds quite proud; a beige film of tight foam. Medicinal, deeply herbal and spicy nose with prominent earthy ginger root still showing. Topsoil, stewed rhubarb and plum, twiggy bark, mace and nutmeg. First sip brought along a lot of liquorice and aniseed in all its earthly forms. Mild heat in the earthy and deeply malty finish from the residual ginger. No oxidation but good age and amalgamation of nuances. Green peppercorn, dark plum and roasted cacao root with a blend of Deutsche aperitif (indefinable) flavours that tickle the olfactories and reside long on the palate. Body has a treacly viscosity but doesn’t seem heavy in the swallow. Carbonation has waned to leave it smooth to oily. I’ll go against the grain on this one. This has aged dynamically after a good seven years in the cellar. Pasteurised or no, it was great drinking, and reminiscent of the best of British ales that I miss. Loved this one..., as a vintage!! 330ml bottle. Small brownish head. Clear black colour. Very sparkly. Soft drink aroma. Strange taste. Don’t like it.
