The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

Reviewed 9-9-10. Sometimes it’s tough to review a legendary beer after you have not had it in awhile. Questions like: Tastes change over time, and what if I don’t like it? are very commonplace - at least in my mind. Anyway, I picked this up over at the Arlington Whole Foods today because...it was there. I poured this into a sniffer. Ap: Dark brown, muddy water pour, that adds up to this beautiful fully cabonated (almost champagne-like), dark brew that has the foamiest head I’ve seen in a long time - unfiltered obviously. Ar: VERY subdued, but equally pleasant. I was expecting this big flood of dark fruit to start beating me up (like Raison d’Etre), but much to my amazement - no. Sure, I’m getting the fruit, but I smell chocolate. T: Sweet licorice right off the bat, then dates. VERY sweet. I actually think age will mellow this out. Not many fancy spices at all - just good old fashioned malts and sugars. Earthy and then some! P: Creamy as hell, with the intense sweetness being part of the brew’s charm. Lots of foamy lacing on the glass. O: 11.2 fl. oz. was plenty. Because the stuff has an ABV of 11.3, I’m feeling pretty good!

Bottle at Kasey’s Tavern in Chicago. Murky brown pour with chunky yeasty floaties. Sweet and alcoholic. Dried old fruit, medicinal, almost minty, earthy funky finish. I always appreciate a Trappist beer. This is no exception. Brewed with pride and care.

Arômes de caramel, cerise, grain et alcool. Robe marron foncée, mousse beige abondante. En bouche, très puissant. Sucré/caramel, acide, onctueux, pas amer. Un grand classique, mais je préfère la 8.

Well, not much left to say - this is one of the best beers in the world. Modern classic.

Off white fluffy head left a thin cover on a very effervescent dark brown body. Plum, Christmas cake, candied fruit, sugar & plum aroma. Smells very rich. Medium to full body. Minimal carbonation. full mouthfeel. Stewed fruit, berries, dark sugar, sour fruits, plum & hints of clove. Complex.

Bottle from Damian Beer and Ale. Marvelous beer. Pours hazy dark brown with creamy head. Full aroma of plums, figs, caramel. Rich taste of raisins, chocolate, plums, figs, medium sweet, bit sour. Long and pleasant finish, alcohol, sweetness. Unforgettable beer.

Argeles. Belle bière opaque aux arômes fins de cacao et de café. Fluide en bouche , belle longueur.

Damn, this one and the Bern really stand out for the widely available Belgians. Fairly complex taste, raisins, dates, figs, caramel, toffee, that kinda thing, but even a hint of sourness there. Sweet of course, as quads are, but not overly so and certainly not (as sometimes is the case w these Belgians) to cover up mediocrity in other aspects

Aromat: przepiękny, słodki, ciężki, gęsty i zawiesisty, są w nim karmel, rodzynki, suszone śliwki, figi i daktyle. Wygląd: piękna, ciemna, krwistoczerwona miedź, wysoka czapa jasnokremowej, drobnopęcherzykowej piany, utrzymująca się długo. Sporo osadu na dnie butelki. Smak: pełne, oleiste, treściwe, gęsta tekstura. Słodycz karmelu i słodkich owoców lekko skontrowana winnością świeżych owoców.

330ml Bottle: Pours a hazy dark brown with red highlights and thick, persistent tan head. Dark fruit aromas with a slight alcohol note. An amazing, complex flavour as it warms. Beer is sweet, probably due to the alcohol. Flavours of caramel, toffee, prunes, dates, molasses and raisins to name but a few. Low bitterness, full bodied, medium to low carbonation. Overall an amazing beer.
