The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

Aroma: Fruity and complex: figs, raisins, strawberries, cherries, burned malt & caramel, hints of coffee & cocoa, sweet wheat, sirup, burgundy wine. The winey part is more explicit in the taste, as well as the coffee-cocoa. On the pallate its soo welvety smooth, but still with backbone and stamina.

Let me just say it has never taken me as long to prepare to compose a rating for a beer, ever! I saw this in stock for along time at Golden Crust in Red Lion, PA. I stopped in for lunch yesterday. It hasnt been on the shelf now for a couple of months so I asked Vinny when he would get more. Well lo and behold he said he stashed 2 bottles! Alrighty then, here goes------- 11:04) $10.50 for one 11.2oz.bottle. Poured very cold to a chalice. Ill have to do this a little differently because Ive never came across a beverage so COMPLEX. I rated St. Bernardus Abt 12 back in in April 2014 and have heard this was better and now that I am out of my shitty marriage, I can try anything I please.::::::AROMA - clove, banana, plum TASTE - medium/heavy sweet, light bitterness, lightly sour BODY - Full CARBONATION - effervescent MOUTH FEEL - complex FINISH - lingering sweet TASTING NOTES - Belgian candy sugar, mild wild yeast, alcohol, plum, dates, blackberry, toffee, butterscotch, raisin And then I took the last few sips that were very warm, well that would be another rating!!! Thanks Vinnie, keep stashin!

33cl bottle from 2013. Aroma of malt, dark fruit, cloves, banana nut bread. Appearance was a deep brown with substantial yeast sediment (even leaving a 1/2" in the bottle during the pour). Large billowing head when poured into a chimay chalice. Remained very lively the entire time in the glass due to the nucleation. Taste was boozy, sweet, and malty. The four years in the bottle made the beer sweeter, with port like qualities. Very warming on the palate. Medium bodied with strong carbonation. This and the St. Bernardus 12 are my two go-to Belgian quads when I want the real deal. World class trappist.

medium aroma - outdated malt, some nuances of aged wine, caramel, fermented black fruits, rum and some cognac notes, all covered with something outdated, stale (like a cheese with mold). medium taste - alcoholic strength, a bit burning, in foreground, malt, well fermented fruits, slightly burnt sugars sweetness, some soft cheese with mold, a bit of belgian yeasts. a good belgian beer with a lot of alcohol.

Lekkere frisse neus met abrikoos en noten. Smaak is mooi vol en rond met vijgen, rozijnen, banaan en pruim. Mooie zachte afdronk.

17/20 lovely Trappist beer. So powerful both in taste and alcohol %. Red cheeks by the end of the bottle. Taste of raisin and dates, slight alcohol burn. Maybe just a bit too powerful for me. I'll have to try 6 and 8 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle poured into a snifter showing caramel brown with two fingers of tanned foam. The nose shows a lovely sweet Belgian yeast forwardness with hints of raisins, toffee, and caramel. The palate is highly carbonated and light to slightly medium bodied. Flavors of black currant, plum, and very light hints of raisin. Surprisingly dry with barely any sweetness but still fruit forward. Strong alcoholic spiciness but does not subtract as it appears on the aftertaste and lasts for a short to medium finish. I cant wait to try this aged.

Aroma caramel malts and warm alcohol. Taste the same with slight hints of dark fruits. Mouthfeel thick, carbonation rather high. Not complex but very nice on a cold winter evening.

A light aroma of plums and dried fruit. Pours a cloudy brown color with a lasting foamy tan head. A full bodied viscous mouth feel. Tastes of plum and raisins with a hint of berries. A lasting plum and alcohol finish.
