COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Pour is a deep dark chestnut amber with a large tan head. Aroma is cherry and dark bread with a slight fig. Flavor is very sweet and molasses forward. A little berry and anise come through toward the end. The bottle says this is best by 2020. As it drinks now it is a bit sweet and a bit of age might clean things up. Its still a Trappist ale and you cant go wrong with sampling one.

Birra dal colore ramato. Schiuma fine e persistente.

Got this one in a single bottle at the local shop, after being told it was a Dubbel (lies, apparently). Pours red-amber with a nice thick head, and a dark plum-y and early grey (bergamot) taste without the bitterness or over-sweetness or straw-y flavor that sometimes comes with Belgians. Even though its apparently blasphemous, I found this one much better than the Rochefort Trappistes 10, which is a bit like an alcohol kick in the face and less of a pleasant experience.

Frothy beige head soon left a skim on reddish brown coloured, finely effervescent body. Dark fruits, malt & demerara aroma. Feels a bit thin. Smooth & tingly on the palate. Taste is similar to aroma with caramel, dark spirit, malt, toffee & dark fruits.

Bottle at home. This is the first of the 3 beers from Brasserie Rochefort, which I have tried. Pours reddish brown with minimal head. Sweet malts, fruit, bread, caramel, yeast. Medium carbonation. Medium body, slight alcohol presence, but not bothersome. Very good.

Bottle 33cl. Caramel dominates the aroma. Dried fruits, raisins, plums. Poured red brown, quickly fading head. Taste had a large sweetness to it, caramelised fruits, liquor. Aftertaste has something rum-like.

Bottle at t Brugs Beerjte. Commonshawn, rosskyle, samalito, and dubtully. Rochefort glass. Deep dark cherry wood color with a plentiful white head. Nose is mostly malty with dark fruit (raisin) present. Taste is a little milder than the 8 or 10 but still sports a welcomed balance of malt and dark fruits. There is a pleasant toffee and caramel quality. It reminds me of a traditional dubbel but its of a high quality. Sweetness comes through but not to the point of ruining the effort. Completed the Rochefort cycle today and very proud of it.
