COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

15. 2. 2017, Ljubljana. Bottled. Almost a bit soury taste in light to medium body. Leaves intense aftertaste mixed all around. Not my style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Looks red/brown like tea, little or no head. Left sediment in the bottom of the bottle for the first half than dropped it in the remaining beer. Restrained nose of malts fruits and bread. Mouthfeel moderate to lively and warming The dried fruity notes of sultanas blend malt hints of caramel along with a light spiciness. There is a lingering fruitiness which is pleasant. With the sediment in it was slightly more earthy. Nice but I had hoped for a little more.... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours light brown with a thick quickly fading white head. Aroma of raisins and bread. Upfront taste of yeasty bread and sweet raisins and spices. Quick finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Scents of yeast and malt. Pours acloudy cider brown with a huge rocky tan head. Some lacing. Nice flavors of sour apples, lacquer and malt with a lingerig sour finish. Good carbonation. Very nice.

0.33 l bottle. Shared with Vinja 666 and Nikola. Had this one before, but didnt rate. Murky amber, small off-white head. Dry fruits, apricot, caramel, dusty, yeast, light nuts. Sweet, light alcohol bite. Medium body, creamy texture, light alcohol presence, medium aromatic finish. It is a beer without major flaws, but not very impressive.

Very complex and delicious. Often I find Belgian yeast to be somewhat distractingly earthy, but here, while present, was nicely balanced by the hops and malt. Well carbonated and nuanced; there was something new in each sip.

Brownish with little white head. Aroma is rum, vanilla, dried phenols, cake dough, very balanced. Taste is very dry, spices, dried fruit bitterness, (dead?) yeasts. Alcohol. Full body with much bubbly carbonation, slightly watery though. Complex and nice.

Copenhagen 4/2 2017. 33 cl bottle from Meny. Simple off-white label signalling that this is a no-nonsense Belgian Monkish brew with a healthy ABV. Pours hazy light brown with small white head. Head disappears leaving opaque muddy fluid. Aroma is sweet and potent at the same time. Caramel, brown sugar and Belgian yeast coming through. You cant miss the prominent ABV. As it warms up it only gets more intense. Quite strong carbonation and medium thick palate. Flavor is heavy sweet without becoming cloying. Partly balanced by spicy bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter sweet. Solid bruin.

Cloudy carrot orange color. Fluffy meringue of head. Deep and opaque with floaties all up in it. The aroma is cloves and tobacco leaf. Lemongrass. There is a hint of peaty smoke in the aroma that that other two Rocheforts dont have. Much earthier than the other two, with some dry white wine grapeyness. Its complex and incredible in the nose. As it warms up (which it needs to), it takes on a pruney complexion in the yeast. The flavor is pipe tobacco, leather, switchgrass. Lots of basement, barnyard funk going on. The smokiness and lapsang tea leaf/tobacco leaf components give it a very grounded balance. There is a dry feel on the way down the ol gullet. This tastes to me like an Old World beer, if such a thing exists. Its musty and yeast-laden and full of smoke and dry leaves of all kinds (tea, tobacco, tree).
