COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Nice trappist ale, great carbonation and mouthfeel. Some caramel sweetness, but very low hop bitterness. All in all, a fine Belgian string ale!

cloudy brown. I expected more head retention actually. smells belgian yeasts and slighlty roasted malt. tastes caramel, wood, raisin and yeasts give it some leather taste too. medium bodied and highly carbonated for an dubbel. dry finish.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel herbal weak yeasty aroma. Fruity malty spicy caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel finish.

Pours dark amber with visible carbonation and a quite dense white head which shows good retention and nice lacing. Rich and vivd aroma with caramel and brown sugar sweetness, fruitiness, slight spiciness and a refreshing herbal/balsamic note. Taste follows the aroma with medium to high caramelish and sugarish sweetness, fruity esters, slight spiciness/pricklyness and just enough bittering balance in a balsamic/herbal finish. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation, quite creamy. An highly drinkable and enjoyable strong ale that is still quite complex. Good

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Met a friend at Brothers, took the opportunity to treat myself. Life is good! Nice aroma, not too strong, another very good Rochefort.
