COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Bottle. Ruddy chestnut colour. Spicy malt aroma. Quite high initial carbonation. Soft flavour, gently malty, bit of caramel, and some fruitiness. Lovely mouthfeel, very drinkable. These days the old school Trappists almost feel like Old World red wines relative to their New World or microbrewery cousins, full of refined understated class but lacking the extreme taste sensations of the upstarts.

0,33 l Flasche. Braunes, trbes Bier, cremeweier, stabiler, grobporiger Schaum, kaum Gardine.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Met a friend at Brothers, took the opportunity to treat myself. Life is good! Nice aroma, not too strong, another very good Rochefort.

Fles gedeeld door LiekevdV. Het is een donker bruin bier met een bittere smaak met enkele zoete tonen.

A bottle from Jasons, drunk at home. Aroma: sweet and fruity, figs. Appearance: opaque, oxtail soup, minimal head. Palate: full-bodied and creamy, soft carbonation. Long, sweet, very complex finish. Taste: heavily sweet but not overpoweringly so, very well-balanced beer. Surprisingly warming for 7.5%, a very satisfying drink.

Bottle. It poured a dark amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was of caramel, bread and malts. The taste was similar to the aroma with more caramel, bread, malts and dark fruits. Nice.

Starts off sweet, brown sugar notes, fading into spice, some bubblegum, and a tannic, woody finish. Excellent.

Decent pour, surprisingly tame for a Trappist Ale; the colors a lovely hazed golden brown and the heads persistent, but the lacing has gone missing. Aroma gives up waves up Belgian yeast, raisins, apples, and overripe peach and a hint of booziness. Taste develops nicely as it warms, growing more and more complex as the dark fruit notes mesh with a caramel-tea sweetness backed by a bitter minerality. Plum and red apple and black cherry underneath it all, followed by a earthy-doughy finish offset by the slightest floral hop bitterness. Solid sparkly Belgian mouthfeel. Not my favorite Trappist but a solid beer nonetheless.
