COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Bottle. BBF 03-11-2021. Poured without yeast, cloudy, dark amber looks, with thin foam. Sparkling. Malty - burned sugar, candy, bisquity - and yeasty - belgium character: berries, resemblance of bubble gum, bit of vanilla - aroma. When it gets warmer, starts to show some winey qualities, goes towards earthy notes too, all of which starts to dominate aroma in the end. Very well balanced - beautiful interplay between sweetness, alco sharpness, balanced by subbtle bitterness. Bready, spicy and fruity. Not to thick, a bit oily, playful carnbonation comes to make it very digestable, but by no meaning very easy drinkable. Dry, quite abrupt finish. Took a one after a while to remember how it feels - last time, according to my tricky memory, it was much more bready. In the end I mixed what was left in glass (~60ml) with yeasty stuff left in bottle (around same sixty) - yeast supported bitterness and malt base, because beer was getting so much dry and earthy when it got warm, that it could be almost be compared to some authentic kvass or traditional lithuanian ale (Jovarai aromatic and taste qualities of hit apples and earth first comes to the mind).

Bottle at home on 8th January 2018, received as a festive gift. Pours a rich copper with yellow-white foam. Pungent earthy malt aroma. A nutty, herby blend in-mouth with soft fruits. A tangy fruitiness dominates the finish. Full-bodied with an engaging texture.

Appearance: Pours murky amber brown with a thick off-white head that quickly dissipates, no lacing. 3/5 Aroma: Fruit, yeast, malts, brown sugar, caramel, herbs and spices. 8/10 Taste: Sweet malt, caramel, chocolate, dark fruits and spice, with slight hint of citric. Moderate sweetness and tartness, alcohol is well hidden. Quite watered down, make it eazy to gulp. Sweet spicy yeasty finish. 8/10 Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, light carbonated. 3/5 Overall 12/20

The last of the three Rochefort beers for me to try but the first to have in my Trappistes Rochefort glass. The 11.2 oz. bottle came from a Ft. Worth area HEB. Going into the trappist glass it delivers a light amber body topped by an healthy egg-brown head. Taking a sniff of it I find yellow raisin, yeast and and a ribbon candy sweetness. A taste gives me an Orval-Duvel feedback, grain, yeast, apricot with some spice/herb in the background. Nice but well behind the 10 and the 8 in my preference.
