This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Bottle. The pour was a murky medium chestnut brown with an average sized (1-2 finger) light tan head that quickly diminished to a thin cap, which in turn created some excellent sheets of lacing. The aroma was of a dark bread malt and a sweet Belgian yeast with notes of toffee, a plethora of dark fruit (cherries, plums raisons and figs) and a mild alcohol tinge. The taste was a mild malty sweet with a good toffee note early on, then becoming a bit yeasty with a big note of dark fruit and a pronounced alcohol finish. The flavor however was short lived fading quite quickly proceeding the swallow, with the fruity yeasty alcohol taste disappearing in what seemed like a matter if seconds. Mouthfeel was somewhere in the middle of light and medium in body with a slightly dry and a bit watery texture and a soft to medium carbonation. Overall this is a very well put together Belgian Ale, although this one is a tad lighter than the Trappistes 8 & 10 from this brewer. Now dont get me wrong, I truly think they are all exceptional brews...

Bottle 33cl. Caramel dominates the aroma. Dried fruits, raisins, plums. Poured red brown, quickly fading head. Taste had a large sweetness to it, caramelised fruits, liquor. Aftertaste has something rum-like.

Bottle at t Brugs Beerjte. Commonshawn, rosskyle, samalito, and dubtully. Rochefort glass. Deep dark cherry wood color with a plentiful white head. Nose is mostly malty with dark fruit (raisin) present. Taste is a little milder than the 8 or 10 but still sports a welcomed balance of malt and dark fruits. There is a pleasant toffee and caramel quality. It reminds me of a traditional dubbel but its of a high quality. Sweetness comes through but not to the point of ruining the effort. Completed the Rochefort cycle today and very proud of it.

Mooi amberkleurig bier met crmekleurige schuimkraag. Zoetig van geur en smaak. Caramel, pruim, dadel, toffee, cassonade, mout. Mooi zacht vol in de mond. Zacht-zoetige afdronk. Toptrappist.

15. 2. 2017, Ljubljana. Bottled. Almost a bit soury taste in light to medium body. Leaves intense aftertaste mixed all around. Not my style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Looks red/brown like tea, little or no head. Left sediment in the bottom of the bottle for the first half than dropped it in the remaining beer. Restrained nose of malts fruits and bread. Mouthfeel moderate to lively and warming The dried fruity notes of sultanas blend malt hints of caramel along with a light spiciness. There is a lingering fruitiness which is pleasant. With the sediment in it was slightly more earthy. Nice but I had hoped for a little more.... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Scents of yeast and malt. Pours acloudy cider brown with a huge rocky tan head. Some lacing. Nice flavors of sour apples, lacquer and malt with a lingerig sour finish. Good carbonation. Very nice.

0.33 l bottle. Shared with Vinja 666 and Nikola. Had this one before, but didnt rate. Murky amber, small off-white head. Dry fruits, apricot, caramel, dusty, yeast, light nuts. Sweet, light alcohol bite. Medium body, creamy texture, light alcohol presence, medium aromatic finish. It is a beer without major flaws, but not very impressive.
