Tap at 2017 Michigan Winter Beer Festival. Not sure what Ninja Turtle is supposed to taste like. It's sweet with maybe a bit caramel? Milk chocolate. Good, but not very distinctive. jtclockwork (17343) - , New Jersey, USA - JUN 8, 2017
Can - pours dark brown tan head - nose and taste of caramel, lactose, cocoa, milk sugar and pecan - medium body chucklemation (1772) - Royal Oak, Michigan, USA - MAY 2, 2017
Pours a dark brown with a foamy off-white head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, lactose, and roast. Flavor is similar, sweet. Has a thin, lightly carbonated mouthfeel. I don’t get the pecan/nut. In fact, this seems more like a regular sweet stout than a specialty milkshake stout - the advertised flavor doesn’t stand out as much as those of other milkshake stouts from Rochester Mills. Yet, this is a solid, enjoyable sweet stout. superspak (6078) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - APR 9, 2017
16 ounce can into pint glass, best before 9/14/2017. Pours crystal clear nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big milk chocolate, toasted pecan, caramel, brown sugar, cocoa, vanilla, cream, dark bread, light coffee/herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa, lactose, and pecan notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, toasted pecan, caramel, brown sugar, cocoa, vanilla, cream, dark bread, light coffee/herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, toasted pecan, caramel, brown sugar, cocoa, vanilla, cream, dark bread, light coffee/herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa, lactose, and pecan flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Minimal dryness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and lightly silky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.25%. Overall this is a very great flavored milk stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa, lactose, and pecan flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Pretty rich feeling for the modest ABV. Great authentic pecan flavors that are a touch buttery, with great balance of the base beer. A really delicious offering.
