16 ounce can into dimpled mug, best before 12/13/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of caramel, toast, biscuit, toffee, light nuttiness, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, biscuit, toffee, light nuttiness, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, toffee, light nuttiness, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of dark/bready malt and light earthy hops flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean in lager flavor as well, no esters present. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good oktoberfest style. Nice robustness and balance of dark/bready malt and light earthy hops flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

On tap. Pours a clear deep amber with a tan head that dissipates nearly completely. Aroma has mainly bread notes with a bit of sweet grains and caramel. Flavor has a sweet grain and bread note with just a touch of caramel.

Tap. Dark Red, no head (this is my problem with tap beers though - it could have been the bartenders fault). Did not smell much aroma other than some sweet malt. The flavor was smoky and malty. Very sweet. Palate was the best thing about the beer - smooth and crisp. I don’t know what it is, but it was not as good as the first time I ever tried the beer (before I was on ratebeer).

Enjoyed one of these at their big tent party last month. It was a nice brownish orange in color with an off white head. The flavor is nutty and toasted malt with lager yeast spice and floral hops in the background. The malt flavor is a nice blend of bready malt with caramel sweetness, well balanced with noble hops and yeast in the crisp finish. A very smooth and drinkable beer. Well made.
