Dark brown with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, pine, light roast, citrus, and light alcohol. Taste of citrus, pine, tobacco, roast, grapefruit, and light alcohol in the finish. hopdog (13191) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 1, 2011
22oz bottle. Dark brown pour with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of roast, licorice, chocolate, coffee, some piney/earthiness. Tastes of roast, chocolate, licorice, and some earth. Hopper (827) - San Antonio, Texas, USA - AUG 31, 2011
22 oz. brown bottle. Basically a black beer with a large head. Nice retention. The aroma is piney up front and resiny with a background of roast. The taste is sweet with lots of caramel, roast and a moderate level of bitterness in the end. A decent beer and would like to try a guaranteed fresh bottle. jtclockwork (17631) - , New Jersey, USA - AUG 23, 2011
Bottle shared by Jcwattsrugger. Pours black. Tan head. Nose/taste of pineapple, cocoa powder, baker’s chocolate, pine and hops. Some black licorice in taste as it warms. Finishes dry and almost piny. Medium body. Mild chalky ash as it gets warmer. pete4999 (1445) - Buffalo, New York, USA - AUG 19, 2011
22 oz bottle purchased from the brewery in Morrisville (IIRC). Smell is actually tremendous - much more hops than i was expecting. Pours opaque with a fast-fading tan head. Looks like a porter. As it warms (and is poured out of the bottle), it smells of a lot of malt - very smoky, some roasted black coffee in it. Hops are pretty subdued. Almost tastes like an extra-hopped porter. Very good.

Appearance : Deep black with foamy brown head. Lots of lacing.
Aroma : Roasted malt with resinous hops. A bit citrusy and piny. Nice chocolate.
Taste : Nice roasted malt with some chocolate and coffee. Roasty finish with piny and resinous hops. Quite a lot of coffee. Finish is a bit astringent. Light alcohol too.
Overall : Nice elements, nice chocolate and coffee. Nice hops. Light astringency. Not a huge fan of Black IPA and I tend to be quite critical about them.
22 oz bottle purchased at Table and Vine in West Springfield, MA. Poured into a shaker. Nearly black/ deep brown, brown hues on the edges. Smells of chocolate, Pine resin, molasses, and a light licorice note. Rich flavor with roasted malts and medium bitter with the faint hint of hops in the profile. Good amount of pine hops as it warms. Nicely thick palate causes a lingering of the flavors on the tongue. Dry hop finish. Good flavors, if you like this style, it’s well worth a try. If you can find a bottle. hopscotch (11414) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUN 26, 2011
Bottle… Murky dark brown ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. The bouquet includes chocolate and acidic red wine. Medium to full-bodied with lively carbonation. The flavor is bitter, bitter, bitter – big time hops and charcoal. Finishes bitter and acrid. SlovakSniper (5561) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 22, 2011
