pours light brown-reddish with a small light beige cap, little retention. caramel and bacon, mushrooms, minerals, hint of maple syrup, soap, earthiness, spoiled fruits, burnt fruits too. moderate carbonation, very light body - watery, short grassy-herbal finish. Bottle at home. Pours clear black with a large, frothy beige head, medium retention with good ringed lacing. Aroma is peat smoke, lightly smoked meats, chocolate and roast malt, pineapple and pear fruity esters, and earthy hops. Flavor is dark malt and smoke, light fruity esters, smoked meats, light hops and bitterness and a dry finish. Medium-light body, somewhat thin with medium carbonation.
Pours a solid dark brown with faint ruby highlights at the edges and a decent white head that quickly dissipates to a cap on top. Smells of smoked ham and bacon mostly, with hints of chocolate at the edges. I honestly have trouble fining much else underneath the smokiness of the aroma here. The flavor is a little better, but not much. Smoked ham with hints of charcoal and ash as well as some chocolate and earthy hops. The smoke flavor here is sharp and acrid and overpowers everything else in this brew. Medium body with a light level of carbonation and a bitter smokey mouthfeel. I’m not a big fan of this one in fact I will avoid this if at all possible. Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - FEB 11, 2013
It pours a deep dark brown and has a nice one inch speckled off white half inch head in my nonic. Foamy speckled lacing graces the sides of the glass. The smell has the smoky chocolate up front coming through in an ashy/coffee sort of way, reminds me like I’m smelling the charcoal from a grill. The taste is smoky and full of coffee bitterness, slightly woody and ashy again. That "meatiness" from rauchbiers comes out in the taste. The palate is medium and crisp with a dark bitter aftertaste and finish. There is nothing harsh on the tongue. This is pretty sessionable. Overall, this is decent for the style, but honestly I’m not fond of it.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle in Stowe, VT.
Nearly opaque cola color with small tan head and fair lacing.
Aroma of dark malt, cola, nuts, bacon and charcoal.
Taste of wet cardboard, caramel, toffee, bacon, bad deli meats and smoke. Quite awful!
Medium/full body and medium/low carbonation.

Pours a very dark red, just about black. There is a small, off-white head which recedes pretty quickly, and doesn’t leave much lacing. The biggest aromas I can find in this beer are roasted malt, coffee and smoke (of course). The flavors in Midnight Madness are very similar to the aromas. Smoke, coffee, chocolate and roasted malt dominate the palate. The beer is a bit thin, which aids in it’s drinkability. I also found that this beer had a higher than average carbonation.
This was a pretty tasty brew. Not going to blow you away (unless you don’t like smokey beers), but a good beer to relax and sit back with. abcfan (920) - New Jersey, USA - DEC 18, 2012
Decent. Pours reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma is fruity malts and light smoke. Light bodied, flows easy, slightly medicinal finish. Nephilium (1821) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - DEC 3, 2012
Slightly sweet, with a presence of smoke in the aroma. Pours a very dark ruby red, with just a dusting of light tan head. The flavor is roasted with a lingering smoke finish. The smoke isn’t overpowering, and nicely accentuates the flavor of the porter. The body is a bit thin, with it being easy drinking. If you like smoked beers, this is a nice one to try, it could also work as an introduction to the style for those who have never tried it.
