3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a very dark red, just about black. There is a small, off-white head which recedes pretty quickly, and doesn’t leave much lacing. The biggest aromas I can find in this beer are roasted malt, coffee and smoke (of course). The flavors in Midnight Madness are very similar to the aromas. Smoke, coffee, chocolate and roasted malt dominate the palate. The beer is a bit thin, which aids in it’s drinkability. I also found that this beer had a higher than average carbonation.
This was a pretty tasty brew. Not going to blow you away (unless you don’t like smokey beers), but a good beer to relax and sit back with.
Red brown pour, tan head. Aroma smoke, caramel, roast barley some leather. Tastes smokey clean, peppers. One of the better ridge runner brews. Sorta light palate. BeerdedDave (1853) - Beckley, USA - JAN 21, 2015

Enjoyed in Vermont. Pours a dark brown colour with a beige head and minimal lacing. Mild coffee notes with roasted malts. A little smokey hints. Not so much in the taste. Flavours of fruity and roasted malts. Decent porter lacking in the taste department, and just a little smokiness. malrubius (2982) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - OCT 8, 2014

Chocolate some roasted coffee very raisiny figgy dark fruity sweet with fruity woody finish and hints of ashy smoke. Thin and way too fruity for my tastes.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2014 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with orange highlights and a medium sized foamy beige head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was bacon, malty, a touch roasty and a bit of smoke. The flavor was dryish and a bit malty with wood, smoke and a touch of bacon. Long smoky finish. Medium body. Ok. puboflyons (3467) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 29, 2014
From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. It is an attractive looking deep brown to near black color with a long lasting beige head. The aroma is rather muted and subtle. I get some smoked malts but they are downplayed. I kind of hoped for more of it considering it a smoked porter. Medium body. The taste is a step up with a similar smoked malt character and clean, earthy finish. keepersj12 (3136) - Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA - FEB 23, 2014
Nothing much to say about this brew. Pours a clear brown with a thin head. The aroma hardly noticeable. Just some bread. The flavor is malty with a hint of smoke and an odd metallic taste. Very thin and watery.

Nice dark color. Great porter aroma with smoky notes on top. Taste is smooth with smoke not overpowering the overall taste. Best smoky taste beer I have had.
