Red/orange amber with thin head riming the glass; great aroma of malty sweet caramelishness and touch of hop spicnessishness; feels rich and foamy yet crisp; flava is a tease between hops grain/barley and fruity/sugary sweetness. this is what I love about this style- when done right, it has the full spectrum of beer characteristics malty & hoppy; rich yet crisp; sweet yet dry; easy to drink yet strong. Rock Art, you nailed it!

Adamsville (390) - Quebec, CANADA - AUG 31, 2017

The label features hiking boots, not sure why. Fairly flat, dark brown pour. This is a light barley wine apparently - an unusual move, but craft brewing is full of unusual moves. Fairly similar to a brown ale. The aroma is a little unpleasant. The taste is better - caramel and brown bread, lightly hopped. It tastes pretty bland for 7.2 abv. Not entirely sure what to do with this - it falls somewhere between failed attempt and good try.

Purchased in Vermont in their mixed pack. Pours a clean dark amber colour, almost copper. Small head, beige with not much follow-up. Beautiful spices in the nose with the barley malt, fruitiness and hints of molasses. Fruity flavours with malt, light sweetness and decent bitter hop in the finish. Quite easy to drink. Surprised to find a barley wine in a taster pack. Glad though.

YigSvartka (449) - Manitoba, CANADA - FEB 19, 2016
Opaque brown hue with a slight tint of purple and an immediately vanishing dark brown head. Pleasant, but slightly lacking in vigrousness aroma with notes of plum, chocolate, roast, and raisins. Relatively light bodied for a barley wine. Dry dark chocolate and roast dominate with minor characteristics of raisin and plum tartness with a dry finish. Good, but lacks robustness.

Tap at Reservoir, Waterbury. Colour is clear dark copper with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Some dry fruits, some sweetness and malts. Very boring. I don’t get point of this one.

Red brown pour. Fast vanishing head. Aroma brown sugar, caramel. Tastes malt syrup, iron. Watery palate. Barleywinr light here. Not a bad idea.

From the12 fl. oz bottle. Looks like it expires in June 2019. Brown pour with reddish hues. Not much head. The aroma has a sweet roasted barley malt character with a hint of dark fruit. The body is light to medium. The taste is sweet and malty with a mild bitterness at the end. Not as pungent and biting as most Barleywines but easy enough to drink as a stand alone.

Bottle. Sweet grape and caramel aroma. Sweet taste with spicy undertones throughout. Not as bad as the score led me to think it would be. Not bad.

Draft sample at the source. Poured a clear amber color, tiny bubbly tan head. Aroma or caramel, sweet malts. Flavor had some toffee and caramel. Very light and thin for a baley wine. Soft carbonation, smooth finish. More of an amber feel to me than barley wine.
