FoBAB 2008. Opaque black with creamy tan head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, cherry, vanilla and some roast. Flavor is much the same with a little more barrel forwardness. Medium body with light carbonation. Nice. pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 7, 2009
sampled at FOBAB 2008....pours black with a thin light beige head... sweet arom consisting mostly of vanilla, chocolate, and bourbon notes..... chocolate, dark fruits, and some vegetables in there somehow. oily mouthfeel and dull carbonation. On tap at FoBAB. Poured black with a taller, well-retained cap of dark tan head. The aroma was rich and super-chocolatey (mostly sweeter and milky).. vanilla and toasted oak accented.. bit of tres leches on the back.. utterly decadent! The flavor had deep cake-like chocolate at the core with a touch of coffee surrounding.. spicy oak and bourbon surrounded and carried well through the finish.. lots of barrel at the end. Heavier-bodied and warm on the palate with great balance to it.. lots going on, and it all worked well together. Excellent beer! tjthresh (1871) - Greenfield, Indiana, USA - DEC 12, 2008
FoBAB 08. Pours opaque black with some nice brown head. Nose is bery fruity with some strong cocoa powder notes. Very robust and assertive with high levels of bitterness and alcohol heat. Full body and sharp. Very nice. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 28, 2008

FoBAB 08. According to the guide, it says it was a blend of Imperial Red Ale and Imperial Stout (not so much a barleywine). Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon, coffee, chocolate, and some floral hops. A little bit of a booze kick to it, but still very good. Nice oak flavor as well. Solid. FoBAB 2008 offering: #714 - My last sampling at FoBAB supplied by extra tickets given to my sampling table. Things were getting a little crazy at this point and my notes were starting to become less legible. Couple this with the fact that the pourer gave me a full pour.. well.. this was a really great day. This beer poured a nice blackish pour with a decent straight brown head. Aroma is largely bourbon and oakiness, chocolate, and roasted malty goodness with a floral bouquet of hops. Taste is very similar, hitting all of these major notes and finishing boozy but with a distinguishable hop profile. Very balanced, very strong, very good. To the barrel aged beer drinkers! Cheers! Fobab VI. It’s baaaack. Now this is really the type of beer that can hold up to a bourbon barrel. Big and rich, it’s like a boozy black and tan. Pours and translucent black, nose of bourbon, coffee, chocolate, stone fruits and flowers. Huge mouthfeel and even more booze, but somehow it’s not offensive. This is one of those beers that you drink, you know it’s huge, you know it burns but it’s just that badass. It’s clean and tasty and has enough hops to make you love it. Damn. UPDATED: NOV 7, 2006 On tap: The aroma is very barley wine-ish and very little imperial stout. Caramel, banana bread, citrus hops, and bourbon all blend together nicely. Reddish-brown with a touch of transparency and a small beige head. Decent lacing. Much like the aroma, it’s the barley wine that takes precedence in the flavor. Caramel and banana bread up front with a hint of chocolate. Finishes with some subtle grapefruit hops and moderate grapefruit. While the bourbon is pretty strong in the finish, it blends relatively well. Philip (436) - Illinois, USA - NOV 5, 2006
FoBAB 2006. I’m not certain I get these kinds of blends. There’s a lot going on here, but not necessarily in the most pleasant way. Notes of fudge and toffee on the nose lead into more of the same on the palate. Some honey, strong vanilla, and lots of bourbon.
