9th October 2008. GABF. Opaque black beer. Mildly toasted malt offset by a little lactose sweetness. Not bad. Ughsmash (7502) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 24, 2009
On tap at Rock Bottom Chicago. Poured black with a nice initial cap of tan head. The aroma picked up a lovely blend of sweeter chocolates and lightly-roasted coffee backed by darker chocolates and roasted barley.. just what I was looking for! The flavor found sweeter chocolates and coffee again, both with a light-to-moderate roast to them.. touch of milky sweetness accented well.. roasted black malts and light herbal bitterness on a long-ish finish. Medium-bodied with just enough carbonation on the palate.. flowed slowly and deliberately.. excellent brew! joergen (29611) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - OCT 20, 2008

(10/9/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Chicago. Black with a light-brown head. Nice roasty aroma with some chocolate and light hints of dark fruit. Sweetish flavor with a roasty character, some coffee, a bit of chocolate and caramel. Medium-bodied. Nice. Rastacouere (6177) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 8, 2008
Rather hoppy porter that manages to be surprisingly refreshing.

Well-extracted aromas manage to sneak around the roast because the latter is kept at low levels. No acidity clash. Flowery, citrusy, almost juicy porter. A copious amount of aromas without so much bitterness.
The malt stays behind the scenes and is certainly not very deep though it offers pleasant blue grape notes. Still, I preferred it to their regular stout.
Draft at the brewpub. Poured an opaque black color with a brown head. The aroma was dominated by cocoa with a bit of citrusy hop in the background. Medium bodied with lots of chocolate flavor and less roast and citrus. Aurelius (5659) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - SEP 30, 2008
Tangy, milky coffee aroma. Black, opaque in a standard pint. Dark brown head. Smooth, roasty, hoppy. Chalky mouthfeel, turns a mite astringent in the finish. Nutty. Green pecan bitterness. Very nice. SQNfan (591) - Wheaton, Illinois, USA - SEP 10, 2008
On tap at the brewpub: This poured opaque brown/black in color iwth a thin head that fades away. The nose shows off bitter chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and a slight citrus. In the mouth it was well-carbonated, fresh and lively...not as deep as I would expect (or like). Overall it was well-balanced, I just wish there was more concentration and power. inkubus27 (269) - highland, Indiana, USA - AUG 23, 2008
The one thing I was hoping to take away from this was the amarillo hop notes that were in the description, but I hardly noticed it at all. Aroma was ok, but showed no signs of the typical amarillo profile. Taste was ok, typical porter, nothing really special. Overall it was ok, but i felt let down by the lack of hop presence. Pours black with a thin tan head. Nice chocolate and coffee aroma. Flavor is mainly roasted malt and chocolate with a touch of coffee. I really didn’t notice the citrus as much as others and I was even looking for it since it was in the description. Decent beer, nothing amazing.
