HAd this on draft at rock bottom Chicago. Dark orange amber pour with off white foamy head. Has a earthy rye aroma. Hoppy floral taste with malts. Bitter. Grass and Carmel also. Not bad TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - FEB 26, 2011
Draft on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Finally getting around to their version. Pours a nice glowing deep amber hue, some light haze but easily see through, a bit fiery and bright with a frothy offwhite head that dies to a sturdy layer, ok lacing, stays small sized but lasts. Aromas are some lemons, ok citrusy hops, but not complex, florals and grass. Some bread and biscuits malts, a touch of sweeter toffee. Initial is lighter bodied, biscuits and toffee with lemon and grass up front, the hops aren’t that powerful, letting sweeter malts, pale and more substantial toffee peek through. It dries out further in, lemons and citrus, florals, grass, more earthy and less fruity overall, not all that complex, a decent bitterness grows, touches of soap, but toasty and sweet malts largely find their way through the hop profile. Hops grow a bit more, but by now I’m just not feeling this one. Sweeter, an ok beer.. Balanced for sure. I’d prefer more of a popping hop profile. Gorgeous lacing and appearance, aroma is dissappointing, taste ok. Ok Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 7, 2011
On tap at Rock Bottom Chicago. Poured translucent orangey-golden with a dense, sticky beige head.. nice color to it. The aroma was faint upfront, but fruity, piney, and floral hops showed up after a little while.. some banana and peppery notes from the yeast on the back.. soft overall, but interesting. The flavor was tangy upfront with lots of sweetness not far behind.. banana and pale malty notes at the core.. quite bitter on the edges, primarily floral and perfumey in character.. spicy finish with too much residual sweetness in the end. Medium-bodied and fairly dry on the palate, but the sweetness jammed up the flow a few times.. OK stuff.
