I’m 90% sure this is the beer i had there a few days ago. Super, hoppy. some alcohol bite. if i was blindfolded i would’ve guess this was an IPA. no joke. msante79 (2225) - Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA - MAR 3, 2010
On tap at Piece for their "Barley Wine Party". Had the sample and then 13oz tulip. Pours very dark brown to black with very dark brown head. Aromas of citrus, hops, pine, roasted malts, chocolate, and some light coffee. Flavors of roasted malts, bitter hops, bright citrus, pine, chocolate, and light coffee. Finishes with loads of roasted malts and citrus hops. Nice full mouthfeel. Reminded me a lot of Darkness, but this is has a lot more roasted malt. Kind of a cross between Darkness and Bere Here Dark Hops. Could have had a few more glasses and I rarely get that feeling from stouts anymore. Great beer. Draft at RBC. Pours a very dark brown. Dark Brown head. Nose is rich and roasty, some light soy notes and molasses complimented by huge hop notes, somehow. Body is big, taste is nice. Reasonably dry finish. Damn good RIS. pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 20, 2010
UPDATED: MAR 3, 2010 Tap at rock bottom... Ours a dark stouty pour with q medium dark tan head which appearance-wise was quite nice... Sweet chocolate maltaroma ... Flavors are of sweet choco malt with a moderate roast quality. hops intermingle well with the imperial stout base. smooth and creamy mouthfeel... quality all-around on this one. Had this beer last night - really solid brew. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and a nice amount of citrus and pine hops. This aroma is very similar to the Black Sun Stout from FFF. Great flavor and balance and does a great job hiding the 11% ABV. Well done.

Sample at Rock Bottom Chicago as Elevated Dry Hopped Imperial Stout. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Malty nose with traces of chocolate, dark fruit and just a hint of spice. Chocolate malt flavor comes out first, followed by dark fruits before a hoppy finish. Pretty solid. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 29, 2009
UPDATED: DEC 31, 2009 On tap at rb chi, pours black with creamy dark reddish-tan head. Nose had lots of chocolate, coffee roast, and citrusy and piney hops. Tastes are highly roasted malts, dark chocolate and dense coffee notes, wonderfully balanced by bright piney and citrusy hop notes with a long roasty bitter finish. Full bodied and no alc noticed. In the same league as darkness and night stalker but more approachable-less sweet and less aromatic hops. Awesome beer!
