BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - DEC 31, 2006
FoBAB 06: Nearly opaque with a purple highlight and oily and creamy head, nice looking brew for sure. The nose detects a heavy roasted malt and bakers chocolate along with plum, fig, and prune. Yes, there is that Woodford bourbon character but in this porter it is much more restrained. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 15, 2006
The taste is an amped up Baltic, very fruity and roasty overtone with a beautiful spicy and vanilla undertone. Again the bourbon is noticeable but never over takes the other favorites. The mouth feel is lush and oily but has a refreshing bite towards the edges and a dry after finish. Now this is more like it, Yummy! I would like to try this again.
On tap at FoBAB 4. Poured black with a medium cap of smooth beige head. Nose definitely found the porter before the barrel influence, which was good news... almost burnt cocoa and darker chocolates were accented by sweet bourbon and vanilla bean. Flavor was rich with darker chocolates leading the way... coffee, light herbs, vanilla, and tasty bourbon backed it up. Smooth and calculating on the palate... medium-bodied. I really enjoyed this one! frankenkitty (2012) - Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA - NOV 14, 2005
A big & foamy tan head formed over a blackish/brown body with red highlights. Aroma was smoky and whiskyish with copious amounts of sweet dark fruit. Heavier than many traditional porters, there seemed to be more of everything in this one: malts, alcohol... flavor. Astringency to finish after a mid-bodied presence.
