Sampled at the FoBAB. The program stated that this was aged with coffee beans. Perhaps this is true but the Bourbon flavors completely overpower the coffee. As it warmed vanilla extract flavors emerged but that was about it. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - DEC 31, 2006
FoBAB 06: Deep brown hue with a small lasting frothy beige head and oaky lace. The aroma has notes of bourbon and wood over a roasty malt, walnut, coffee and chocolate chip cookie vapor. The taste is a bit too boozy with the Woodford bourbon upfront and also in the finish. Hard to find any porter under it all but hard work discovered coffee beans, smoked malts, and and notes a warm banana nut bread. The mouth feel is expectedly thin and watery. Snooze... On tap at FoBAB 4. Poured a very deep brown with a medium cap of creamy beige head. Nose had lots and lots of bourbon... hard to pull out the underlying porter... nice bourbon, though. Flavor was about the same thing... not much more than the bourbon.. coffee emerged as it warmed up with a medium roast.. too influenced by the bourbon. Sharp bourbonny highlights on the palate with coffee bitterness.
