[on draught @ RB Chicago] Very potent bourbon aroma, with loads of malt and subtle anise. Thick black in color, very nice dark coffee-colored head. Flavors are very roasty; dark chocolate, stone fruits, molasses. Powerful barrel character. Very complex, full bodied. Alcohol content is very smooth, almost hard to believe. xnoxhatex (1305) - Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA - FEB 10, 2008
On tap at the brewery. Pitch black with medium tan head. Aroma is lots of bourbon, chocolate, dark malt, very nice. Flavor is a very well balanced dark chocolate dark malt with bourbon barrel, cherry and darker fruit, and a good amount of hops, enjoyable. Medium to full body with a nice creaminess. An excelent stout on its own with a well balaced barrel flavor. jbean (110) - Illinois, USA - FEB 6, 2008
On draught at Brewpub June 2007. Black and thick, beautiful tan head. The aroma is bourbon, roasted malts, chocolate. Flavor is overwhelmingly bourbon and alcohol. Some earthiness is there, but not very well balanced. I think this will improve with age. csbosox (1229) - Prairie Village, Kansas, USA - DEC 11, 2007
2006 GABF Oak, bourbon, vanilla, and mild roast in the aroma, but mainly oak (maybe due to the cold serving temp?) Oak, bourbon, and roast in the flavor. Too much oak for me to enjoy. User29624 (1687) - - NOV 16, 2007
A very solid bourbon stout from Rock Bottom once again. They continue to impress me. Fantastic beer, but most of their other bourbon stouts are better because they are more complex (fruit, oatmeal, etc).

FoBaB ’07. Wonderful, inviting, rich bourbon aroma. Fully opaque, black body with no head. Caramel flavor. Nice beer, but not outstanding. A little bit of a harsh finish. pantanap (3367) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 9, 2007
FOBAB ’07....poured pitch dark-brown (does that make sense?) with thin tan head....aroma was a big bouquet of chocolate and woody bourbon...taste was very creamy, sweet and tingly. lots of coconut, vanilla, and chocolate with a soft bitterness in the finish. boozy and bourbony throughout....there were better brews to be had on this day but this was a great way to kick things off. Black colour with a small beige head. Roasted malty and sweet aroma with wood and alcohol notes. Sweet and roasted malty flavor with notes of chocolate and alcohol. scraff (2125) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - NOV 4, 2007
Tap @ RB Chicago - Dense black, tan creamy head. Intense nose of coffee and charred chocolate sit on soft waves of port, vanilla, bourbon and wood. French roast chocolate coffee flavors balance on oaky bourbon and vanilla port-like notes. A soft hop bitterness helps round out the initial sweet malt intake. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, drying, boozy oak finish. A very nice sipper…

Had this twice (so far), a handbottled version generously shared by MadsBerg and at GABF 2007. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of roasted malt as well as medium notes of brown sugar, wood, and bourbon. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt, bourbon, and soy sauce, leading to a dry bourbon finish. The alcohol leaves a slight burn on the palate.
