Draft on tap at FFF Brewpub (Munster, IN). Pours a pitch black opaque pour, dark and ominous with a nice thick decent sized head that laces well. Aromas are a nice mix of campfire meats, dark roasty malts, a touch of chocolate, the ham element is nice and pleasant, a bit of ash and campfire, cocoa, coffee. The sweetness is minimal, the smoke sets the tone with light bitterness and faint sweetness. Initial mirrors this, smokey, with more cocoa sweetness, a decent roast, smooth and silky. Full on the palate, but not overbearing, flavorful, balanced, and not overly smoked. This beer represents the style well and is quite drinkable. Several glasses worth at the Rock Bottom Chef & Brewer’s Dinner at RB Chicago. This was a surprise hit.. one of the best smoked porters I’ve come across! Poured black with a tall, creamy cap of chocolate/cappuccino head and some nice lacing. Decadent dark roasted chocolate in the nose with mild oak accents and perfectly-integrated smoked malts. Flavor was spot on with dark roasted chocolate at the core, moderate smokiness laced throughout, dried floral bitterness and hints of coffee. Smooth middle and slightly thicker than medium-bodied.. coffee bitterness, smoked peat, and chocolate leave a lasting impression. This was just brilliant!
