Draught in a flight from the Cincinnati Rock Bottom. Pours a near-black color. Nose has quite a bit of oats and roasting to it, but does not belie an overly complex beer. Taste is very roasty and slightly bitter, with a bit of coffee coming through. Ok, as I like the style, but nothing special at all.

Draft to taster at the Cincinnati brewpub. Looks good; a translucent dark cola with foamy beige head. That steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells solid; dark malt, chocolate, and mild oats. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. A good oatmeal stout.

on tap @ Rock Bottom / Cincinnati OH --- Opaque brown/black with a thick rim head, streak of lace. Taste is sweet chewy malt with just a hint of dark chocolate that turns bittersweet in the palate before becoming acidic and cloying in the finish. A lot going on here, but the balance is lacking for me, and it doesn’t hold up to many notable examples of the style.

10oz snifter on tap at the brewpub. Black color. Good thin lighter brown head, with good retention. Leaves nice rows and spread of lace. Medium body. Good smooth lighter carbonation. Kind of crisp, but with a nice full mouthfeel and a lightly sticky finish. Very big oaty flavor, some darker chocolate, with a tingly mouthfeel in the finish. Moderate bitter taste, lighter sweet. Pretty good oatmeal stout. Impressive.

Tap at Cincy Beerfest. Coffee, chocolate, earthy oat, and vanilla aroma. Black brown with a small tan head. Chocolate, coffee, and oat flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation.

Draft - pours dark brown with tan head. Nose is smoky. Flavor adds roasted malts, chocolate and perhaps licorice. Dry. Light sweetness and moderate bitterness. Decent.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2014 Draft at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a small but resilient tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, brown sugar, coffee, and oatmeal. Flavor improves upon that, with roasted malts, oatmeal, coffee, cocoa powder, and some earthy hop bitterness. More roasty and bitter than sweet. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation. Still lighter in body than I would have liked. Roasty, bitter finish. Pretty good beer. Re-Rate: 4/19/14. Pours an amber-hued brown with a beige head that leaves a little bit of lace in the glass. Notes of oats, toast, nuts, burnt sugar, and toffee. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a toasty, savory mouthfeel. I imagine there is a corporate entry that hasn’t been entered yet, and that this will eventually be aliased.

This my favorite beer I’ve had at Rock Bottom. Pours dark brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma is of sweet oatmeal, malt and alcohol. Taste is of sweet oatmeal with toasted malt. Nice finish with a sweet lingering oatmeal taste. Very good.

Aroma was sweet slightly roasted malts but somewhat weak. The appearance was incredible. Dark brown color with a frothy creamy light brown head. Head lasted until the end and left really good lacing. Medium body and slightly watered down palate carried a flavor of caramel and coffee that would have been better if not for the watery feel to it. Finished with a nice coffee bitterness. Definitely could have been better.
