3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thick, chewy, caramel malt aroma with some notes of toffee and some herbal, floral hops apparent. Opaque, brown body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled, tan head that lasts well. Caramel and toffee malt character is joined by raisin-like fruitiness with light finishing bitterness. Medium light body with moderate, soft carbonation. Sampled on tap at Rock Bottom Denver with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere. MrRomero (1976) - Nolanville, USA - OCT 14, 2005
GABF Weekend at the brewery: poured dark orange with a small white head. Mild fruity scent of orange. Mild maltiness in the flavor with a touch of hops and light fruit. Mild hairsprasy. Decent. DavidP (1748) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 3, 2005
Tap @ pub, same one BBB had. The sign said this was dry-hopped w/ Phoenix. Hazy amber body with a white nitro head. Malty aroma w/ strawberries and grain husk. Husks in the start of the flavor along with light-caramel malt. Dusty, astringent aftertaste. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - OCT 2, 2005
On tap at Denver, (day 2 Pre-GABF):

I am placing this here since there is no other listing for an ESB at this location. It was cask-conditioned.
Hazy amber hue with a long lasting head and good lacing. The aroma has notes of apple and pear esters, floral hops (Fuggles I think), very aromatic and heathery. A smooth bitterness is balanced by a caramel and crystal malt sweetness. A touch twangy and fruity on the finish. It is not too bad and very quaffable, I could pound down a few pints of this over lunch.
[Tap at the Denver location] An amber beer with no head. The aroma is very light - what is there is hoppy and yeasty. The flavor is burnt and hoppy - with a dry hoppy end, and the body is thin. A boring beer - and it is too burnt. dirtymike (2016) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 29, 2005
