BlackForestCO (978) - Aurora, Colorado, USA - FEB 21, 2012
On tap at the location by Park Meadows. Poured an amber-orange color with a moderate off-white head that faded to a thin layer and left some spotty lacing. Leafy, dank, earthy aroma with some light pine accompanied by a soft citrus fruitiness (grapefruit, orange). Smooth, moderately sweet entry with some soft caramel quickly transitions into a bitter, leafy, earthy hoppiness with a nice resinous quality that takes center stage with a nice complementing fruitiness (the same grapefruit and orange present in the nose) that linger into the dry, moderately bitter finish. Moderate carbonation and a nice biting dryness that invited you to drink more. Overall, it certainly wasn’t overly complex but the freshness and nice hop intensity without being 10% made it a nice drinker.

On tap at Howl at the Moon (Denver). Clear orange appearance with a white head. Fresh, zesty, grassy hop aroma. Similar flavor, adding citrus fruit and moderate bitterness. Medium body with a crisp feel. Pretty clean, kinda tasty overall I suppose.

neepsntatties (1988) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUL 24, 2015
On tap at Rock Bottom’s Denver airport location. Colour...slightly hazy medium gold with a thick white head. Nose...grapefruit skin, dusty dry hops and honeyed mango. Palate...full, velvety and brimming with citrusy hop flavour. There’s more of that dusty hop thing on the mid palate and plenty of the grapefruit too. There’s a bit of spent grain, ever so briefly, on the mid palate and then a lengthy finish that’s balanced well between the malt and hops. I can’t understand why the ratings are so low on this ale. Perhaps it’s simply improved since the last ratings.

Muddy tan...looks like shit. Aroma is grapefruit, flowers and diacetyl. Taste is grapefruit and way too much yeast. This stuff is just too green.

On tap at Downtown location. Pour is hazy orange amber with a frothy white head and great lacing. Grapefruity, spicy hoppy, piney, ganja, orange, citrusy, sweet honey, and floral aroma. Taste is much more weed forward - ganja, spicy, piney, fruit peel, bready, and slightly alcoholic with a heavy bitter finish. Slick mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Aroma is awesome, wish the taste was the same.

Sampler at the Rock Bottom Westminister on 9/27/2012. This India Pale Ale pours a medium orange gold color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet with nice citrus and grapefruit hops. A medium bodied India Pale Ale The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are citrus and grapefruit. Decent carbonation, Nice balance. Not sure it’s a ‘hop bomb’, but the hops flavors are nice. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

3.2
