3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black pour with a creamy smooth and sticky light tan head. Wonderful coffee tones and a touch of cocoa on the nose. Medium palate with a bit of unsweetened cocoa and mild roasty black coffee tones. Not gourmet coffee, but the kind that a church usually serves. Gentle roast tones and a mild sweetness on the finish. Wordsworth (147) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUL 28, 2013
Draft pour at Denver location. Pours darkest brown with a lingering khaki head. Smells of malt, licorice, faint chocolate. Taste is a blend of roasty and milk chocolate with a long, soft bitter finish. Slick mouthfeel. Solid porter. JaBier (8178) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - APR 2, 2010
Bottle shared by Dogbrick as a precursor to his Portland beer tasting. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Nose of malt, chocolate and a bit of licorice. Nice roasted malt flavor with some chocolate in the finish. Pretty solid. Dogbrick (13547) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAR 6, 2010
Sample at the "Portland? Psh More Like Beerland" tasting on 03/10/10. The beer pours a clear orange-brown color with a medium thin off-white head that diminishes slowly. Stringy lacing on the glass. Dark chocolate aroma with roasted malt notes. Medium, smooth body with flavors of mild coffee, chocolate and malt. The finish is chocolatey with a cocoa aftertaste. Decent overall. this was listed as "purple porter on the board of the denver location. didn’t want to add a new beer without more info so i’m sticking it here for now.
dark body with a tan head. smells of coffee & slick chocolate, not cocoa. caramel shines through nicely. this is the kind of porter i like, lots of chocolate crammed into this, but it is tempered with a wood like bitterness that keeps it normal. the flavors meld in a way that i am in awe of. a nice porter a bit drier on the finish than i expected, but still nice.
