Fairly dark with a creamy tan head. Sweet nutty aroma. Some roasted character comes through that was not initially present. Same roasted malts in the flavor with the addition of some faint chocolate. YourDarkLord (1800) - Urbana, Illinois, USA - MAY 8, 2006
From a growler shared by Mamabeer. Poured a rich, dark chestnut with a foamy beige head that left nice lacing behind. Roasted nuts, chocolate malts, slight coffee notes. Medium body with a smooth feel. Sweet flavor at the start and then an ever so slight bitterness in the end. StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 29, 2005
Translucent amber brown with a wispy grey head. Roasted chocolate malts in the aroma are drawn out, along with charcoal and caramel. Absolutely no smell that hints toward bitterness. Flavor is deflated. Some toasty hazelnuts and light, sugar free cocoa powder. Some astringency that spreads from the tongue’s center. Semi-sweet chocolate chip finish. Hazy brown with thin off-white head. Aroma is of roasted malts with some sweet notes. Roasted/burnt flavor, dry finish. Flat on the tongue. Not sure if what I had was a Brickway since it was noted as a robust brown similar to a porter. On tap at RB, Indianapolis.
