Draft at RB Indy. 10oz glass.
Poured dark brown color with an average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Heavy woody, cherry and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a slick smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy cherry sweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet woody finish of moderate to long duration.
Good Woodford barrel brew. jcr (2705) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - MAY 17, 2009
Draft. Dark amber, clear. Short, off-white head. Mild aroma of caramel, grain, alcohol, wood. The flavor was moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finished lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of caramel and husk, but it’s slight. Medium body with a watery texture and lively carbonation. The server said this was barrel-aged for six months, but the wood character was barely perceptible. Timid brew for a Scotch ale. Cornfield (5570) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - APR 27, 2009
RockFest II, Chicago, IL: What I had was "Naughty Woody," a barrel aged Scotch Ale... so even though this one’s under the mythical Scottish Ale category, I’ll plop my rating here. It had a somewhat cloudy brown body with a thin off-white head. It had a woody, malty aroma with a touch of caramel and noticeable alcohol. The flavor was much the same, although there was a light element of smoke to it. Nice drink. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 24, 2009
On tap at FoBAB. Poured clear amber with a short cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweet smoky caramel and light fruity notes upfront with plenty of bourbon behind.. the bourbon train picked up a bit too much steam and burned the nose hairs a bit. The flavor had toffee and caramel at the core supporting a whole helluva lot of bourbon and toasted oak.. like the nose, the boozy presence was too far over the top. Somewhat syrupy on the palate with low carbonation.. very strong, lengthy finish.

FoBAB 2008. dark brown color, ruby highlights, no head, but tiny broen bubbles lace side of glass. aroma of alcohol and wood. flavor is noticibly alcoholic with a good burn, but still smooth and creamy. slightly fizzy, medium body, dry finish. although i liked the alcoholic kick, this was a bit too mild and smooth to be one of my top samples at FoBAB. 1FastSTi (3360) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 5, 2008
FoBAB 2008. The beer pours to a dark mahogany body with a bubbly white head. The aroma is very heavily rye or bourbon. Very clean and high quality booze but not boozy. There are caramelized malts and walnuts. The flavor is extremely balanced but has a noticeable Pappy Van Winkle. Rye malts, nicely toasted barley. Very complex. I dug this a lot. tjthresh (1873) - Greenfield, Indiana, USA - DEC 5, 2008
FoBAB 08. Nutty brown with a khaki head. Very much a Scotch Whisky nose. A bit of oak and vanilla. Boozy but easy to drink. Medium body. Balanced finish. Some nice fruit. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - NOV 28, 2008
FoBAB 2008: Mahogany hued with a small frothy off-white head. The aroma has notes of smoky, peaty, caramel and sweet bread malt, earthy yeast ester, wood, raisin and plum vapours around the edges. The taste starts with a nice twangy fruity tone before a hit of sweet and bready malt comes out to play. The finish is where it is at for this brew with a dash of hop bitterness and rye whisky bite rounded out by the oak. The mouth feel is sharp and yet quite refreshing. Very nice beer and well done barrel aging, excellent overall palate experience.
