On tap at Rock Bottom Minneapolis before the RBSG 2007 Surly tour. I loved this one. Nice coopery color, small creamy head, sweet caramely flavor with other dark fruits. I have a thing for Vikings and explorers... detroiter (958) - Euphoria, Minnesota, USA - FEB 11, 2007
Erik pours a clear copper red with better than an inch of cream colored foam. Very nice spidery lacing throughout the glass. Mild malty aroma with a bit of citrus fruit or hop.
Smooth and tasty malt - with some toasted biscuit and a little caramel followed by a brief herbal hop bite right at the end. Some hop bitterness lingers for a half a minute or so in the aftertaste. I don’t find the citrus fruit or citrus hop character that the aroma suggested anywhere else in the beer. Plentiful carbonation and nearly-medium body give this beer a nice mouthfeel and finish. beastiefan2k (4033) - HdG (past: NYC, KS, Rain City), Maryland, USA - JAN 21, 2009
Sampler at MSP airport, third beer in the sampler. After the other three, I found this to be the most enjoyable for the moment and then had a shaker pour. It is a clear, more brown then red, color. It has a lightly sticky lacing. Aroma is perfect balance of hops and burnt and woodsy malt behind that, yet almost no residual sweetness, nice and clean. Taste is still hoppy (grassy and sweet hops) with loads of roast malts back there as well. Some toffee in there as well that melds perfectly as well. Comes off as fruit punch with a light caramel sweetness. Still clean and so fun and easy to drink. Came off as a lagered, clean, Irish Ale more so than a Vienna, either way I liked it a lot. From a pint at the Minneapolis airport on 10/17/08. Poured deep amber. Aroma - light malt. Taste was fairly sweet with some earthy hops, malt and caramel. Maybe a bit thin, but overall very drinkable. One of the better offerings from Rock Bottom. sliffy (2040) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 29, 2007
On tap @ the brew pub: Pours a clear amber color with an off white head. Aroma, caramel and toffee malts. Flavor, toffee, a little nutty, sweet with some spicy hop notes. Not bad.

Tap at MSP airport. Deep copper coloured beer. Aroma is lightly malty and toasty with a light caramelly sweetness. There is a noticible kiss of spicy hops behind the sweetness. Very clean if a little bit too sweet. It’s a pretty solid brew really, even if it isn’t really my thing. Pigfoot (2268) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 25, 2007
Appearance: hazed, pale crimson color, lush head, nice looking in the mug.
Bright, fruity aroma, rosy and sweet, hints of nut...
...which follows through in the taste, but dark fruits are tops. Apple, melon, grape. Tasty hops dancing on the tongue, a tidy tango, slides off easily. Big, juicy fruit. Medium bodied, clean, efffortlessly easy to zip past your lips.
A pleasantly agreeable, light and tasty lager. Can’t go wrong here.

On draft at Minneapolis airport. A deep amber color with a good nose of caramel malts and just a touch of hops. A really good balanced flavor. I got some of the flowery hop flavor, but not much of the bitterness. Has an average palate for the style. TomDecapolis (4618) - Milton, Delaware, USA - JUN 3, 2008
On tap at the Minneapolis location. Pours a translucent deep copper/amber with a medium creamy/bubbly off white head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, toffee, nuts and light citrus notes. Flavor was much of the same with the toasted malt, light citrus notes, toffee and nuts. Tmoney99 (14752) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 6, 2009
Draft sample at MSP.
Poured clear amber color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate toasted malt and floral hop aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish that was moderate in duration.
This is a solid beer for style.
