On tap at Orland RB, and dispensed to a sampler with a light gold hue, and white head foam that reduced quickly to a ring and film and left some light dots and dashes of lacing. The aroma was light grain, lemon, orange zest, and spice, picking up some coriander. The flavor was similar, with low hop bitterness, light body, and a hint of corn. Okay summer sessionable. Poured on tap at the brewpub (Orland Park, IL) in a mug club mug. Pours a murky glowing golden hue, with some darker notes, moderate white bubbly head, dissipates to a film, very light lacing. Not bad. Aromas are light, with a mellow sweetness, orange peel and coriander, no real spice, but a touch of light belgian yeast. Initial is medium bodied, packing some decent coriander, light orange zest, and some cereal and wheat on the backend. Not real bitterness, the very cereal on the finish. Decent flavors, however I really appreciate a better spice or pepper even. Mediocre, a good starter beer. Cheers. BeerBunker (966) - Burbank, Illinois, USA - JAN 5, 2009
Poured from a growler. Pours golden with minimal off-white head. Moderate carbonation. Aroma is of wheat, citrus, pine, and malt. Taste is of wheat, malt, citrus, pine, and spice. Lingering spice taste. Very light mouthfeel. Not a bad beer at all. Very refreshing, but should be a summer beer, not a winter beer. dm9831 (1512) - Monee, Illinois, USA - DEC 6, 2008
on tap at RBOP. pours cloudy yellow, slight white head. nose is musty malt, grain. flavor is grainy with creamy caramel hints and cardboard. medium bodied, creamy finish. wheat beers are not my favorite, but at least this one had no banana in it. thus, i kick it up a point. Interesting. Another Chicago region Area Coded wheat beer. Ive had a 630 from Rock Bottom Yorktown, a 312 from Goose Island, an 847 from Mickey Finn’s, and now this offerering from brewmaster Iain Wilson, right here in mine very own Area Code!
This ale pours a bright (I held it up to sunlight from the brewpub’s window) yellow body, slightly hazed, with a creamy white head that indulges itself in heavy lacework. The aroma has wheat flakes, a lemony tartness, and a light spicing from the coriander, orange peel, and chamomile. Tastes pretty much as what the nose advertizes, the spices being a tad more quiet. It finishes on a dry, spicy note... refreshing, and probably more suited to the Summer than the icy temperatures and frigid winds that we’re experiencing today.
Lessee - All I need now is a 773 and an 815 to complete my collection....
