Snifter poured on tap at the brewpub (Orland Park, I’ll). Pours an opaque black, dark, ominous, brown small head that dies to a film that clings to the edges, light lacing. Aromas are a decent dose of boozy bourbon, wet oak, vanilla, coffee, roasted malts, the alcohol a bit too harsh on the nose for me. Initial is a bit underbodied, a decent dose of boozy bourbon, coffee, and roast, the wet oak and bourbon take dominance, the coffee coming in behind and lighter. This beer is rough around the edges, tasty but boozy, coffee and chocolate behind with vanilla and a harsh warmth. A bit of almost lactose and vanilla, dry chalkiness stick. Underbodied, funny finish. Cornfield (5569) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - FEB 8, 2010
On tap at the brewpub: This pours an intensely dark brown body, clear around the edges, with little head to speak of. The aroma has a level of booziness that an old juice hound can appreciate, well supported by a woody, dark caramel sweetness, some plum jam, and soft rooty bitterness. The flavor reflects the nose well, with perhaps a stronger alcohol presence. The finish is dry and satisfying. Nice.
