Previewed at the Oak Park Micro Brew & Food Review, then later Mug Club served at the Yorktown brewpub, displaying a murky, orangy gold hue, a thumb’s width of soft white, fairly lasting, bubbles & cream head foam, and curtainy cling to the lacing. The aroma was graininess, resin & woodiness, a touch of cattiness, some citrus and fruit sweetness, as orange & pineapple, with a detracting but fleeting wisp of soapiness. The flavor also added an aggressive, rind-like, hop bitterness, good malt content, some rye spiciness, and a decent dryness to the finish. With all that said, basically a well rounded, drinkable IPA. This was just put on last night and was the first beer from the new brewer Jim Wolfer. So the servers didn’t have the information on it yet. Should it be an IPA or a Rye beer? I’ll just go by my gut. Cloudy IPA copper color, with a thin layer of foam. A big piney and catbox smell. This surely has some dry-hopping with one of the "C’s" or an Amarillo. The bitterness is the first thing on my tongue. But after that initial burn, I found a pretty drinkable IPA, with a light malt that’s had its lights punched out by a big hop smack. Hard to pick out the rye among all this hop bitterness. But I did catch a bit of pine toward the end, too.
