EtTuCthulhu (1391) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - MAY 17, 2013
After coming from the tap, the beer sits opaquely black in the glass with a small, off-white head, and the aroma is strong with a combination of hops (resin, grass, and floral scents of hops, specifically) and toasted malts. Once sipped, the beer is overwhelmingly bitter with no hints or touches of anything else, which actually works against this beer. Indeed, the mouthfeel doesn’t help how oppressingly hoppy this beer assaults the sense due to the astringently bitter finish, medium body, sticky texture, and soft carbonation that has a bite.
Hop heads may like this beer bunches, but I do like more balance and complexity in my brew, especially when grains are used to add color.
