Deep dark brown in color with a creamy brown head. The flavors where awesome and the malts used where great. I got a hint of burnt malts this did not take from the flavor and I would recommend this to anyone.

On tap 7/28/05: Lasting beige head on a dark brown, almost opaque body. Roasty and coffee dominate @ first, but there is some chocolate & light diacetyl that adds a nice complexity to the nose. Nutty and caramel as it warms with very little fruitiness. Well balanced, but a bit on the bitter side in the dry finish. Aftertaste is more dark grain bitterness w/ a bit of a burnt, black malt flavor. Some roastiness and caramel in between. Lower carbonation, dry, lightly chalky m/f w/ a medium body. A bit too burnt tasting for my liking and enjoyment, but it’s not a bad beer. I didn’t really taste or smell any smoke given the name of this beer, at least not today. Draft at brewpub. Dark brown hue with a medium head that dimonoshed slowly. Good smokey sweet aroma. Medium to full body. Good flavor of malt, chocolate and smoke with a small bitter finish.

Black brown body with a thick and creamy tan head. The aroma is rich cocoa and only a slight touch of smoke. The hops come out more in the flavor. Full-flavored, but not extreme. The smoke is there, but very reserved. Very drinkable. NVBeer232 (467) - Reno, Nevada, USA - JUL 25, 2005
Black pour with red edges. Loads of german-style rauch malt aromas, along with some toffee. Malty initially,with some hops emerging leading to a dry finish. This was really like a steak in a glass. lots of smoked meat and bitter hops. Tasty.
