Rodenbach Alexander was brewed for the first time in 1986 on the occasion of Alexander Rodenbach’s 200th birthday and is now back by popular demand to the delight of beer lovers in Belgium and abroad. It is a blend of 2/3rd aged Rodenbach (100% 2 year aged beer) with 1/3rd younger ale, macerated with sour cherries. The natural flavour and taste of sour cherries brings a perfect match between the sour beer and the red fruit. Its aftertaste is reminiscent of a Burgundy wine and its freshness makes this beer the perfect aperitif or accompaniment to cheeses or dessert. Note: The 2016 version has the abv of 5.6%

Big thanks to Goldtwins who gave me this bottle about five years ago. I’m sure sitting on it isn’t doing it any favors so I’ve decided to celebrate Alabama’s National Championship by opening this. Pours a Coca-Cola caramel color with deep red highlights. A quickly dissipating head, also reminiscent of Coca-Cola. Fruity aromas fill the room simply from the pour. Somewhat biscuity, cherry aroma. Tart and leathery. Cherries, sweet malt and balsamic flavors. Slight notes of tobacco. Pretty thick mouthfeel. Much better years ago but still a nice beer. Overly acetic. Vinegar and malt. Acidic aftertaste. Roll Tide!!

Tap at Craftownia. Aroma is little bit viegear-ish, also some red fruits, a lot of cherries, vanilla, and funky notes. Taste the same, a lot of cherries, a little bit tart, wooden notes and leather-ish notes. Beer is rather sour, smooth. Good one.

Hallonröd med tunt rödbeige skum. Doftar sötsurt av körsbär. Smaken fyllig, syrlig, lite fruktig och tämligen torr. Eftersmaken ganska lång och fruktig, i slutet enbart sur.

Aroma is very nice, full of sour cherries. Topped with green walnuts skin, almonds and just the right amount of sweetness. Not too sour, it feels quite balanced from the aroma itself. Taste is very good, very balanced between sourness and sweetness. Ripe fruits, sour cherries, ripe grapes, even some strawberries. Complex and elegant, this is a fine liquid!

Flöska keypt í Rúsuni. Clear lovely mahogny red colour, small white head. Funky fruity cherry lovely aroma, bit woody touch underneath. Such a good flavour: Cherries, sour and funky fruity, sour, dry bit, just sooo delicious! Long lasting sour fruity cherry finish, great!

Absolutnie mnie urzekło. Jest czerwonawe, tworzy gęstą, trwałą pianę. W aromacie czuć wiśnie, czerwone porzeczki, delikatną octowość i kwaśność. W smaku nuty te zostają uzupełnione cukrem trzcinowym, delikatną dębiną, subtelnym karmelem, słodyczą, pestkowością, ale też kwaśnością. Świetnie zbalansowane. Bardzo eleganckie. Świetne!

Bottle (from etre gourmet). Pours dark red with beige head. Aroma is sour, oaky, fruits, bit vinegary. Flavor is sweet and sour, fruits, cherries, oak, some sugar. Finish is sweet and acidic sour. Overall: good.

750ml bottle (thanks martjoobolut). Clear dark red-brown color. Medium size, tan head, stays. Sour, cherries, bit dirty, sweetish, juicy in aroma. Sweet, cherries, cherry jam, fruity, acidic and sugary in taste. Sugary acidic cherries in aftertaste. Soft crisp carbonation. Sugary cherries in mouthfeel. Excellent brew.

cherry, fruity sweet, alcoholic like wine, cherry, burning feeling in the finish. Full bodied. It’s a good beer, but too much cherry for my taste.

I am probably prejudice for this beer. When I become of drinking age, this was my beer. I have waited years to taste this beer again. It still tastes like in my dreams A mixture of a classic lambic based sour cherry beer but on the base of Rodenbach. Heavenly.
