The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

GoufCustom (2207) - HONG KONG - DEC 9, 2017

750 ml corked plain bottle tied with booklet, opened with fairly low ‘pop’ bought at Valentino Chocolatier in Wanchai circa 2014, aged for 3 years.

Looks: Clear burgundy colour with a thick layer of dirt-like yeast sediments; Near zero head with sparse, residual soapy white foam which fades immediately; Poor sticky lacing with zero carbonation.

Aroma: Very Fragrant red malt, with red wine, light brandy, penetrating mix of cherries, cranberries, blackcurrant and raspberries, barrel, sugar, nice strong yoghurt tartness and light red vinegar. Complex, fruity and nice!

Taste: Quite sour red malt, with red wine, cherries, fair, raspberries, yoghurt tartness, light red vinegar, funk, light alcohol, barrel, light sugar, light floral and lemon. Subtle!

Body: Close to light body. Watery but slick palate.

Mouth Feel: Strong red maltyness in a watery but still slick background (thanks to aging). Very little traits of Ale left behind, instead this is like a very subtle wine hybrid - and impressive array of cherries, raspberries, red vinegar, yoghurt, booze and funk - all well combined, not too strong but not too light, just right on the money. All well balanced by fair sweetness and lemon, yet so easy to drink. Is this for real !?

Hoppiness: No nose, light floral and lemon in taste; Bitterness is low for an abrupt, nice sour and sweet red malty finish.

After Taste: Quite dry; Very fruity winey and easy to mouth.

Comments: I am glad I wait until now to taste this. Its aroma is so fruity, winey and refreshing, and the taste - so subtle yet complex - well worth the wait. A fine example of a beer turning into a fine wine. Lovely!

P.S. A nice choice for my #2200 rating! :P

This stuff is so good. Very aromatic and tart yet balanced. Just enough malt to round things out. This is one of the very best beers I've ever had. And maybe the best example of a Flemish Brown.

KraftowyJakup (471) - POLAND - DEC 8, 2017

kaserov (1023) - Oviedo, SPAIN - DEC 3, 2017
Impresiona.

tlind2 (1792) - Helsinki, FINLAND - DEC 2, 2017
Bottle. Reddish-amber color, white head. Sour aroma with notes of cherries. Fairly dry, sour flavor that follows the aroma. Medium-full body, high carbonation. Nice.

Aus der Flasche im 2014-07 getrunken. Hmmm!

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2017 Pleasantly acetic aroma, deep red fruits. Mouth cleansing sharp taste with cherries, wood, malt vinegar. Sweet aftertaste complements the sour early finish. Tasted at The Old Co-op, Darton, Barnsley, S75.
