COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

Small, fizzy, pink, mostly diminishing head. Normal, medium red body. Moderate malty aroma, with notes of cookie, grain and nutty. Light hoppy aroma, with notes of flowers and perfume. Moderate yeasty aroma, with notes of barnyard and earth. Notes of cherry, raspberry, cassis, white wine, cask wood, butter and sulfur. Moderate sweet, light bitter and moderate acidic initial flavor. Average, moderate sweet, light bitter and moderate acidic finish. Medium body. Watery texture. Lively carbonation. Light alcoholic, light astringent finish. Best I’ve had in this style. Excellent

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2016 One of my favourite sour beers, I keep going back to it over and over again - tons of fruit and sourness. It smells just perfect, of roses, grapes, rosee wine, and the taste that follows is amazing, with notes of sweet grapes, mild to medium fruit sourness, acetic and very subtle vinegar notes.

Orange to red colour and small head. Aroma has cranberries, cherry and raspberries bringing sourness and sweetness together really well. Taste is quite sour, same cranberry, cherry and raspberry are in the taste. Sweet and sour taste that is really nice. Medium body and medium carbonation. Exceptional beer, from the bottle to the taste.

At the Magic Beer Room, split between several people... now where on earth did my booklet go. Aaanyway. clear red-amber body. D Aroma... dried figs, cherries, sweet maltiness. Taste... dried fruit, cherry, carbonation slightly stronger than it should be, but generally fine. Lovely balance. Very mild tartness to round things up.. in the end just simply lovely. L to the ovely.

Aroma:
Heavy aroma of red fruits, berries, cherry, raspberry, red wine and acidity.

Appearance:
Turbid/opaque red/brown beer with a slight off-white head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium/heavy sweet with red fruits, berries and raspberry; ends slightly dry and sour with red wine and acidity.

Overall:
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. The fruit works so great and is extremely noticeable in both the aroma and flavour. Shamefully the head disappears rather quickly and the palats could have been slightly better. Amazing beer all over with loads of fruit and just a slight tart, but still remains very complex.

Pours a cloudy dark ruby red color with copper/mahogany edges and a one finger pinkish, off-white head that quickly settles into a lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind. Beautiful color in this beer. Sweet vinous aroma with luscious fruit, acetic acid and a strong barrel presence. Decent amount of oak but not overpowering with delicate char. No toothpick character which is surprising given it aged in oak for two years. Strong acetic acid but more of a vinaigrette sweetness, not harsh or solvent-like. Lots of luscious fruit juice. The cranberry and sour cherries really stand out countering the acid and barrel with a really pleasant juicy fruit presence. Smells incredible. Tart and puckering with the perfect balance of sour acidity, earthy oak and vinous fruit sweetness. Subtle funk and acetic acid but again, it not solvent-like, providing mostly vinegary sweetness. Some dark malt flavors in there along with prominent vinous dark fruit. Tart cranberry and sour cherry really stand out along with other dark berries. Well balanced and surprisingly drinkable considering the complexity and sour acidity. Subtle mineral flavor and somewhat kriek like with dry fruit skins, jammy seeds and sweet fruit juice.
