The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

Hazy copper/Amber with a thin rocky white cap. Amazing raspberry and cherry fruity aroma with a light sour tart. Smooth and tart ruby red cherry and raspberry flavors, fruity and sweet and almost candy like but also slightly tart and razzy. Delicious and eclectic with lots of tart and sweet fleshy red fruit. Reeeealy tasty.

Pours red with a quickly fading head. Nose shows red fruit and berries, soft funk and little else. Flavours include more berries, very light funk and a soft balsamic note.

Cherries, raspberries, cranberries, some vanilla in aroma. Pours red with pink head. Taste is slightly sour, very fruity, some acidic, bit sweet. No bitterness. Overall taste is not as good as nose, too one-dimensional and bit boring.

craftbeersweden (604) - SWEDEN - MAR 27, 2016
Bought September 4, 2015 at Systembolaget Sweden and has been resting in my beercellar for seven months.

The beer pours beautifully in the glass with a dark red-brown "oak" - color. Hazy with a thin head.

Nose: Soft, sweet, tart nose of cherry, ripe apple, prune, oak, vanilla, raspberry and earthy yeast. I’m in love!
Taste: Ooooohh! So good! Raspberry, cherry, green apple, lemon, red berries, vinegar, oak and cranberry. Fantastic!
Mouth-feel: Full body. High but smooth carbonation. Sour, tart mouth with a great dry ending. Complex structure.

Conclusion: This is a beer of a lifetime! Totally blow my mind! So complex, tart, funky, smooth, sour, sweet.... well it’s LIFE!
Happiness and love in a bottle!

In this totally rush of life itself have to put down this review... It’s not easy but somebody has to do it...

Pours clear dark red with pink head. Aroma is rich with fruit notes, cherry, sweetness, vanilla, berries, old wood etc. Almost impossible to take nose out. Taste is quite same, some sourness and well balanced. Fills your mouth with complex taste. Very very excellent!

Bottle: Poured a deep reddish color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of rich cherry notes with plenty of oak notes and some tart notes with some light residual sugar notes. Taste is a perfect mix of fresh cherry notes with some tart notes and oak with some residual sugar notes. Body is full with great carbonation.

Draft. Sour red cherry, musty yeast, and straw aroma. Cloudy ruby red with minimal head. Sweet-tart cherry, malt, yeast , and mildly bitter straw flavor. Nice body. Pretty sweet for the style.

Pours dark copper, clear, with unstable foamy pinky head, which dissapeared in a few seconds. Visually low to medium carbonation. Aroma: rich fruity aroma of sour cherries, cranberries, raspberries, supported with notes of vanilla, wood, toffee...flavor: intense fruity flavor, with notes of fruits, mentioned above, supported with toffee, gentle caramel note, wood, hint of vanilla...taste is fruity sweet, slightly sour finish and sticky/ dry aftertaste. Body is medium, texture is soft, carbonation is medium. Very, very drinkable beer!
