Bottle. BB June 2020; Drank Nov 2017 - Opaque very dark brown / black in colour. Small foamy tan head. Very malty; roasty malts, dark chocolate, liquorice, coffee, caramel. Fruity; dark fruits, plums, raisins. Spicy; mildly peppery. Hoppy; good hop bitterness. Rather oily in texture. Bitter roasty chocolate and liquorice malty fruity throughout. Earthy dry roast. Enjoyable. Rather good Impy Porter. (2017-11)

@ Modeste Bier Festival 2017
Roasted and chocolaty in nose. Taste is molasses, boozy, toasted, whisky, licorice and more heavy chocolate. Full bodied. Thick palate. Very nice.

Alengrin (5779) - BELGIUM - OCT 4, 2017
Bronckhorster's flagship beer, at Modeste. Very thick, very dense, creamy, lacing, coffee cream-like, deep beige head, ink black robe. Strong, perfumey bouquet of coffee beans, bitter black chocolate, mocha ice cream, black pepper, leather, nutmeg, dried prunes, mocha ice cream, cigar tobacco, raisins, fried black olives. Quite intense onset, thick layer of dried fruits, restrained in sweetness with sourish and light cured meat-like umami accents, sharpish minerally carbonation but still thick, heavy, oily mouthfeel. Deep toasted nuttiness en black chocolate, leathery accents, explicit black coffee-like roasted bitter ending, burnt toast, spicy, dry and long, well-hopped, whisky-like warming alcohol. Much more coffeeish roasted bitter than I expect from an imperial porter, even more so than many contemporary imperial stouts - feels like a classic English style RIS. I expect less bitterness and more sweetness from an imperial porter but whatever: this is a great beer by itself, a thick, black, roasty sipper. Would love to revisit this in more comfortable circumstances and at a more befitting serving temperature...

Zlotta (3966) - Hagen / Düsseldorf, GERMANY - AUG 11, 2017
0.33 l bottle from ’Gall & Gall’ (Zutphen), best before November 2020, cellared for over two years. Jet black with a medium large, frothy, stable, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, quite roasty aroma of dark chocolate, praline, mocca, sole licorice and faint hints of dark fruits. Quite sweet, malty, moderately roasty and a bit fruity taste of dark chocolate, praline, coffee, licorice, dark fruits and hints of wood, followed by a medium long, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly earthy-dry, a bit vinous and minimally tart finish. Full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice sipper, well-balanced, quite complex.

schavuitje (301) - APELDOORN, NETHERLANDS - MAY 28, 2017
Business trip to Bronckhorster Brewery, this is their best but not always, dark even the foam, smells of dark dark, fresh-cold coffee, sour caramel sweet behind roasted aftertaste

vami (542) - Poznan, POLAND - MAY 23, 2017
[Euro Beer Swap thanks to MonsterMagnet] Pours black with dense tan head. Aroma: smoke, prunes (a lot of smoked prunes - but no prunes in the ingredient lists, which is surprising - apparently malt + aging), no alcohol in aroma, licorice, raisins, berries. Taste: smoked prunes again, sherry notes, chocolate, then alcohol kicks in. Alcoholic/berry-like finish. Would taste better a year later.

Zwart bier met beige schuim. Geur: gebrande mout, koffie, chocolade, rook, turf en raar maar waar iets bloemig. Smaak: alcoholisch, zoet, geturfde whisky. Weinig koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: alcoholisch en zoet.
