Beard beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maier’s beard. No need to freak out, brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same old growth beard since 1978 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard. What does beard beer taste like? try it, we think you’ll be surprised...

swampwater (66) - Preston, Lancashire, ENGLAND - NOV 11, 2015
Aroma: Hops, flowers, mango.
Appearance: Deep amber, with a light, white head.
Taste: Hops, mango, pineapple, and a very slight hint of coffee.
Palate: Bitter at first, with a lingering sweet finish. Medium body. Medium carbonation.
Overall: I bought this beer for the gimmick, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is a great beer. Interesting aromas, and clean, refreshing flavours make this quite a complex beer.

unclemike (3170) - Junction City Kansas, Kansas, USA - NOV 11, 2015
Clear golden caramel colored pour. Big white head. Plenty of lacing. Citrusy malty aroma with a very prescient malt note. Malty flavor with a nutty malty note. Not bad

Bottle. Yes, I drank it and it was good. Amber in color with a medium head. Aroma was roasted grains with hints of tree fruit. Taste is slightly sweet upfront. Nice tasty balance that’s better than you could imagine.

rusos (782) - Stupava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - OCT 17, 2015
Bottle. Clear golden colour. Aroma malts, red berries, some hops. Taste is much the same, quite sweet, some uncleanness in taste.

Gurthnar (6173) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - OCT 17, 2015
Bottle at a tasting. Saisony Belgian spicy element to this beer, otherwise it stays pretty clean. Simple honeyish malt base and no excessive hops in the way. Quite good.

Simay (75) - Vienna, AUSTRIA - OCT 17, 2015
Hazy yellow colour with white head. Smells fruity, yeast, light and sweet. Has good carbonation, tastes sweet and a good balance of hops and yeasts. Easy to drink but not very special.
