COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beard beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maiers beard. No need to freak out, brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same old growth beard since 1978 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard. What does beard beer taste like? try it, we think youll be surprised...

I cant place the aroma. Nothing real special. Color is a cloudy orange-ish color with a lasting offwhite lacing. Taste is a bit citrus fruity and floral. Some hops there. I believe some spice too. There is a lasting tingle on the tip of the tongue which I oddly find pleasant. Overall this is a unique beer in concept, and it is a drinkable beer - but it is a type you try for the uniqueness and not one that will be bought again. If it was given to me, yes, I will drink it any time. There are just better beers out there for the price.

Pours a hazy orange. Smell is mild - bread, light fruit. Taste is sweet and mildly sour - hint of spice.

Aroma:
Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, fruit, bread, hops and spices.

Appearance:
Turbid golden/amber beer with a slight/medium off-white head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel and fruit; ends slightly bitter and dry with bread, hops and spices.

Overall:
This beer is rather intense, complex and balanced. The yeast that is used sounds worse than the actual result. Still, it is a rather weird flavour that I can only depict as spices. Truly unique, but sadly a really average beer. Why not create something great with such an awesome backstory.

650ml bottle. Pours gold with no head. Small nose with almost nothing discernable. Full body with fruity flavours and a lingering yeast palate. An interesting beer but nothing fantastic.

Sample from a bottle at DE 2016. Clear golden to amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, yeast, spice, citrus and a bitter finish.

Bottle split at Islo tasting, thanks to Daniel OSprey, 07/07/16. Golden orange with a decent off white head. Nose is toasted grains, tangy citric rinds, straw, bread dough. Taste comprises orange jelly, lemon rind, grains, light spice, yeast esters, bread. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok formulaic Belgo affair. Should have tossed some pubes in maybe?

Bomber from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Honey golden and pretty much clear. An off white fluffy head falls slowly. Light lacing. Wow, this is unexciting and not up to what I expect from Rogue. There is some Belgian yeast and malts that could be in a saison. A hint of pepper and spice. Not really much going on.

Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Pours a golden amber with frothy off white head. Nose of stale fruit and a little citrus. Medium body. Flavor is light fruit and again light citrus. The finish is spicy and yeasty. OK drinking but overall underwhelming. Not up to the standards you expect from Rogue. The best part was the etched bottle with the big beard.

Bottle. Yeast and orange peel aroma. Pours a cloudy dark golden in colour with a large and frothy off-white head. Pine, cloves, and citrus/orange flavours. Creamy full bodied texture. Bitter citrus finish.

Bottle shared at Craft Beer Co. Islington - London. Many thanks to Daniel! Pours clear gold with a white cream topping. The nose holds mellow rindy citrus, faint pine. Moderately sweet, with notes of dry white bread, biscuits, jammy citrus fruits. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet, sugary finish, with more doughy white bread, vague fruits. Simple, enjoyable.
