COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beard beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maiers beard. No need to freak out, brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same old growth beard since 1978 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard. What does beard beer taste like? try it, we think youll be surprised...

I think my wife wanted to throw up when I had her read the label on the back about the origin of this beer. Yes, inspired by head brewers beard and the "who-knows-what" that is found within. I feel like this isnt a serious attempt of making anything great that will be around season after season. Plus what would they do once the guy with the beard moves on or passes on? Beer poured a medium, golden with little to no head. Aroma was musty, earthy with a bit of funk. Original sips were prickly on the lips due to medium+ carbonation. Taste reflected the aroma, on the funky side. It has a low IBU and wasnt bitter at all. Viscosity was average. As I let the beer warm, it left more of a fruity aftertaste. Been there, tried that. Wont be drinking this one again unless it was the only option.

12/13 - Slightly hazed golden liquid. Smallish heavy cream colored head. Aromas of pale malt and wheat, and hints of yeast, banana and dough. Light acidic, sweet start. Some lemon and minerals deposit on the tongue. An Enkel with a slight twist.

Aroma:
Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, fruit, bread, hops and spices.

Appearance:
Turbid golden/amber beer with a slight/medium off-white head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel and fruit; ends slightly bitter and dry with bread, hops and spices.

Overall:
This beer is rather intense, complex and balanced. The yeast that is used sounds worse than the actual result. Still, it is a rather weird flavour that I can only depict as spices. Truly unique, but sadly a really average beer. Why not create something great with such an awesome backstory.
