Gorgeous head with strong flowery smell. Flavor is not as rewarding, nearly the same as the Sierra Nevada stout, or a good IPA- flavor is just hops. Other flavors are tricks caused by it’s dark brown color. I expected more complexity. I might like it more if I was a hop-head. Beerdedone (3404) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 30, 2008
Bottle. Pours brown with a light tan head that leaves lacing as its consumed. Aroma is hoppy with pine, citrus, caramel malts and some nuttiness. Flavor is quite hoppy with piny resin, grapefruit, caramel and a hint of nuts with a creamy mouthfeel and a bitter hoppy finish. cbkschubert (2901) - BFE, Arizona, USA - DEC 29, 2008
On tap at 1702 during Rogue night - Pours a brown color with a small off white head. Faint lacing. Aroma is pleasant floral hops. Flavor is also hops with a bit of malt hiding in there. Has a astringent aftertaste. Medium body. This is one hoppy and bitter beer. RuneStumo (2678) - Haugesund, NORWAY - NOV 21, 2008
01.11.2008, On tap at the Rogue Ale house in San Francisco. The colour is dark brown. Pale brown head. The beer smells alittle like tequila!. There is also bitternes, juniperus and alcohol. Very nice complex ale. Boutip (6374) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 31, 2008
Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a huge thick foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of deep caramel malt with a dry hoppy finish. Taste is also dominated by some deep caramel malt with some sweet notes that are well balanced with a dry hoppy finish. Well done overall and something that I would go for again.

On tap at the flying saucer in KC. Pours a dark brown with some red streaks. A small, creamy, tan head that stayed for the session and was very lacy. Beautiful. Sweet and roasty aroma with a good amount of chocolate malts, nuttiness, and that Rogue hop smell that I love so much. Full bodied, creamy, and loaded with taste. Very complex. Intense amount of sweet malts and hops. Roasty, chocolate, nutty, caramel, piny. Overall, a very rich and warming beer that really hit the spot. Extremely bitter, but a great balance. Loved it. jonno (2761) - JAPAN - OCT 12, 2008
A great ASA...pours pitch black with little head...very much a wnter ale with it’s strong in malty goodness, but not so hoppy. a dangerous beer in that you could drink a few very quickly and it would hit you OldGrowth (3474) - the Containment Area, North Carolina, USA - OCT 8, 2008
Pint @ Tyler’s in Apex. Great aroma, Sweet. Roasty. Cocoa, floral hops. Dark reddish brown color, good head that stayed for bit. Ok lace. Bittter sweet flavor, caramel, grapefruit bitterness. medium body, creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish. Great aroma, one to sniff for a while, the play between malts & hops is wonderful. Flavor fell short of aroma, narrowly bitter. anders37 (26605) - Malmö, SWEDEN - OCT 7, 2008
Draught @ Brewer’s on the Bay, Newport, OR. Pours a dark brownish red color with a small tan head. Malty bitter hoppy aroma with hints of chocolate and grapefruit. Sweetish malty hoppy bitter flavor with hints of grapefruit and caramel. Has a long malty hoppy bitter finish with a long bitter aftertaste. checkmatei1 (765) - Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 6, 2008
Draft @ Capones: Poured a dark red/brown with not much head. The aroma was hoppy with sweet malts. The flavor was hoppy as well, with some chocolate malts, spice and well balanced. Overall a really tasty brew that might get better with age.
