Good sized off white head of dense and creamy bubbles. Settles slowly. Big hoppy aroma with some juniper, caramel malts and piney notes. Color is a nice crimson brown. Predominently dry and bitter flavor with lots of pine, roasted grains, as bit of caramel malts and this cherry/nutty flavor. Pretty good but also pretty bitter. Lingering bitterness and herbal flavors. A pretty good brew if you like hoppy beers. LilKem (1213) - Marietta, Ohio, USA - JUN 11, 2009
This is a damn fine brew, different. Hoppy, with a sense of carmel, copper, and light chocolate malt. Nice amber, almost reminds me of an imperial amber. Lots of cascade hoppiness in the flavor with only hints of grapefruit, and plenty of yeast. I hope I’m still alive in the morning but you know what they say Red Sky At Night, Sailor’s Delight... 21iceman40 (1735) - Grafton, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 11, 2009
This has a great balanced aroma. Everything about the hops is balanced. Its very smooth, not weak at all. Nice sharp hop bitterness about half way through. This is a nice beer to sip on. And the fact that its dedicated to sig and his bro’s is even cooler. KnutAlbert (6798) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 8, 2009

Tobacco aroma, malty sweetness, fough hoppy dryness. A hop showcase, I don’t get the feel of all those maly elements. ScottyP (425) - Brentwood, Tennessee, USA - JUN 7, 2009
Pours a hazy orange/brown with nice tan head. Aroma of pine hops, citrus, some caramel malt. Taste is strong resinous pine hops, some spice. Sticky mouthfeel. Another solid beer from Rogue, but definitely not a top 10 Rogue for me.

Pours a beige head with legs and a copper-amber body. Smells of cascade hops. Flavor is fresh hops and malt sweetness with some lemon zest. Finish has a nice bitterness. MmmcKay (1053) - Brentwood, Tennessee, USA - JUN 7, 2009
UPDATED: AUG 1, 2009 Tasting courtesy Butters 6th cellar reduction. Brown copper color. Cat piss and citrus nose. Plenty of hops and light malt as well. Bitter hoppy flavors. Hops are everywhere on this beer. Malt doesn’t show up on the palette until the finish. More balanced than I originally gave it credit for. It does have lingering flavors.Nice long finish. Hops dominate a little. But I dig it. Re-tasted, and have boosted the rating a touch from a 3.4 to a 3.6. Butters (4062) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JUN 7, 2009
Bottle shared at the 6th Cellar Reduction. Hazy purpley with reddish highlights and wispy faint tan head. Nose is upfront huge citrus hops, like pineapple, and a little alcohol heat. Flavor is nicely bitter, but not too much malt backbone. Cool idea. dchmela (3088) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JUN 6, 2009
Bottle. Pours a dark brown hazy with a thick off white head. Nice citrus, floral hop aroma. Taste is bitter hop and caramel malt sweetness blending well together. Not sure what the style should really be, but good nonetheless. Sigmund (8033) - Tau, NORWAY - JUN 4, 2009
1 pt. 6 fl. oz. bottle, as Rogue Captain Sig’s Northwestern Ale, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Hazy brown colour, huge light tan head. Nice aroma of fruity American hops (Horizon, Amarillo and Cascade). The flavour has a considerable malty sweetness with hints of caramel, which probably is necessary to balance the 80 IBU. The fruity and resinous hops add more to the flavour than just bitterness, but the finish is nonetheless quite bitter. Good stuff.
