4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
It pours a light amber and gives the same color body. A really nice looking foamy lumpy white one inch head appears and lasts for a good three minutes before gently dieing into the body. Some spotty lacing is left. The smell has the jalapeno peppers powerfully up front, malts only come in after a half an hour of warming up. The taste is the same adding a very nice dry smokey aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium and sharp on the tongue, possibly because of the peppers that were added. A nice "hot" feel rushes over my tongue after about five minutes of having a couple sips of this, interesting. Overall, this is good for me and good for its style.
From Dec 2005
Poured from bottle(room temp) a nice amber with a huge head that settled down after a while but remained throughout.
The smell was malty..can't say any of the peppers made it to my nose.
The taste was very malty and then notes of "heat" made their presence and lingered right through the aftertaste.
This is a very different kind of beer for me and though I "feel" that this must be one of the better examples of the style, I have to think the style is not for me. Try it and find out for yourself. ;^) gripweed57 (2794) - Hamilton Square, New Jersey, USA - JUL 5, 2017
From old tasting notes. Labeled as "Rogue Mexicali Rogue Ale". Hazy gold color. Malty bean and bacon aroma. Smooth, smoky malt flavor with hints of bacon and chipotle. Subtle hot finish and aftertaste. RhetoricalAns (939) - Red Deer, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 21, 2017
650 ml bomber. Dark, clear amber pour, small fizzy head, no retention. Aroma is smoky and spicy for sure. Taste follows but there’s little else besides. Just didn’t enjoy this one. Heat seems to be the only feature of the beer rather than complimenting. mrdrock (21) - - JUN 9, 2017
Weak head that dissipates quickly
Clear amber color
I cannot feel any heat from the jalapeño
Would drink again

Draft. Amber with a beige head. Aroma of banana, bubblegum, spices, chili, acetone. Flavour of malts, banana, bubblegum, candy, chili, pepper, acetone. Medium chili burn reinforced by the alcohol. Good as a snifter, would not be able to drink more.

Yikes. The smoke in the grain just overpowers everything. There’s possibly a decent beer under there but I can’t find it. Pinky77 (256) - - MAR 8, 2017
