Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogues Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole black and tan!

Oooh. My 100th American beer. Appears resinous amber with a full white head that sank and left excellent lace. Aromas of stewed fruit, malt and then a dangerous undertone of violent pepperiness. Like Talisker whisky without restraint. Initially creamy and fluffy and then the flushes of peppers. Bitterness suggests itself and then comes the piquancy just as youre trying to think of other things to write. It lingers as a capsicum spray on the palate. It is piquant without being overwhelming. I have had two beer related pepper-gasms: Mikkeler Texas Ranger, which was utterly remarkable; Mussel Inn Heat Rash, which was intriguing and I have had another experience when I was 5 when I rubbed drying Cayenne pepper into my face. I was wary for nearly thirty years. With this beer, Im a little disappointed there wasnt more thrown back to crying child who thought his face was on fire.

Yikes. The smoke in the grain just overpowers everything. Theres possibly a decent beer under there but I cant find it.

The base beer is pretty good, hints of belgian styles underneath. But the spices are quite peppery, tabaco-like, and smoky. Probably won't buy again, but worth a try. Bottle from sobeys.

Strong chipotle aroma, Mexican food! Cloudy copper. Chipotle flavor up front without the spice/heat. A bit one dimensional but if youre into chipotle youre sure to enjoy this.

Bomber from Total Wine, Gainesville. Slightly hazy deep amber with a small beige head. Aroma of citrus, smoke, and pepper. Flavor is definitely smoky, followed by some citrus, and finally some pepper heat. Kinda bland... was expecting more.
