Pours a thick dark brown-black; forms a thinnish mocha head that slowly dissipates to a persistent thin layer on top. Beautiful aroma that is at once chocolatey, spicy and a bit piney. Flavor is nice tight baker’s chocolate, medium roast coffee, sweet yet dry malt. Spicy, somewhat piney hops add an interesting element. If someone were to describe to me a chocolate stout with notable piney notes, I’d imagine it tasting kind of gross. But the piney and spicy nature of the hops unexpectedly complements rather than detracts from the base chocolate character. Rogue seems to strike a perfect balance here and my guess is that any attempt by anyone else to replicate it would likely come off tasting awkward. Palate is impossibly smooth as it slides down like a chocolate milkshake. Even though I intended to do a beer-rating marathon during this particular trip to the pub, I ended up ordering round after round of this instead.
Smooth with chocolate / coffee overtones. Not bitter. Not cloying. Very nice brew.

Bomber from Liquor Barn in North Burnaby. A very dark ale with generous tan head and a distinct chocolate nose. The chocolate is obvious, but not overstated. Silky smooth, sweet, with trace hop bitterness. Dee.lish.usss! 4. ozzy70 (1081) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - MAR 15, 2017
